Hi Guys
I found this in my recent history logs this morning, when I went to click the more details button it was grayed out??? Any Ideas what this means. The silent mode is on its default setting which is off.Is it the same thing?Earlier in the morning in Norton tamper protection there was windows\system32\mrt.exe at a medium risk,I have just installed Malwarebytes is that part of it.I know full of questions.

I'm sorry for the late reply. I guess the employees are really busy. I'm affraid I really don't know what's happening. I can reproduce it either.
I will ask one of the employees to have a look

Hi Stu/All
Don't worry about the last of my questions as I freak at a lot of stuff and try to put it all in one box I.E. Give you guys as much info as I can.(which may or may not be related!)Just the light silent mode business I never touch the silent mode button and having this entered twice in my recent history logs ,has me guessing as its not in the help files of NIS2009.So any help from the powers that be would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Mo

Hi,
MRT.exe located in %system% is a part of Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. Why Norton has flagged it as a medium risk I cannot say. Probably it is because of the behaviour of the process but in worst case (but less likely) that the integrity of the file itself has been compromised.

Thanks jAW
I think on the same morning the little Norton icon in the tray disappeared for a few seconds I was in the event viewer at the time???(windows event viewer)Any way I won't confuse this post and stick to the main question I had asked.Thank you for shedding some light on the other question much appreciated for a beginner.

Norton picked up MRT.exe as attacking Norton, when i run malwarebytes it says the same thing.but as far as I know I have not used mrt.exe or would know how to use it

Hi,
The tool should run automatically once a month as a part of the windows update. You can run it manually if you want to but it is usually not needed.

Hi jAW
I know this is off subject but would the once a month running of mrt also include a inbound tcp on port 1254 to the mmc(microsoft management console)I understand that I may be confusing a few things so I understand if you don't know what I'm on about.Sheep! I don't even know what I'm on about LOL
Cheers Mo
Maybe I'll just leave this alone thanks
still would like to know about the Light silent Mode
