I just realised that the first posting I made, simply giving the error number as a heading, will make people think I didn't bother to look at the discussion or solutions provided. I did - and don't understand any of it..
If anyone can just tell me what to press or whatever - to get an automated fix going - I'd be really grateful.
with thanks,
ski
PS I found it hard enough to understand how to post a message. I could only post this second one by going back with the arrow to reach the original page with "new message" on it - because I couldn't see how to find it again otherwise. :-/

Hi! All,
I did some checking and Symantec is not the only place having problems; other places are reporting that they are experiencing problems getting data to consumers. So please sit tight it appears to be an issue with the internet as a whole.

Hi everyone,
It appears that running LiveUpdate manually has resolved this for some customers. If you've experienced this error, please try running LiveUpdate again to see if the error occurs. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

I ran the update manually, downloaded about 5 mb of new stuff, and everything was successfully installed with no errors.
