hello. everytime i turn my laptop on i get a computer symbol with an antenna that says low disk space when i mouseover. when i click it it brings up a grey box that says
Warning: LiveUpdate has encountered a low disk space condition on one or more hard disks on your system.
LiveUpdate is unable to retrieve and install all available updates -- This can leave your system vulnerable.
It is recommended that you free up disk space on your system so that LiveUpdate can provide you with the best protection.
Do you want to launch Windows Disk Cleanup now?
when I click yes nothing happens,
I am running xp have the latest NIS 2010 installed and have plenty of space left on both drives.
I believe live update is not used for 2010 and can be uninstalled but cannot find it in add/remove programs
I over installed 2010 from 2009 and am wary of re installing because I intend to install on a new laptop when I get one, but norton says I only have one one activation left and if I re-install i'll have wasted all my activations on one single computer.
and my computer is running painfully slow!
thanks -Paul

LiveUpdate, as a stand alone application, is not needed for NIS2009 or NIS2010; you are correct in this. The process is built into these products. If you had a clean install / upgrade of the previous products, then the stand alone program should have been removed and you will no longer find the stand alone program to uninstall.
Two things you can try to help this situation:
Run the Disk Cleanup utility from the START > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup menu entry. It may take this awhile to finish so be patient; especially if this has not been run very much before.
Run the Disk Defragmenter in the same System Tools menu. This should also help with the speed of your system.
Let us know how you progress with this.

Hi paulbunker,
I would just like to add that there is also a small a stand alone application that is for XP is ATF CLEANER.
This clears all unwanted clutter, more information about this can be found at

Hi. I am running windows XP sp3 and NIS 2009. I fixed my same situation this way:
Start button (lower left of taskbar)
Run
In the box type "msconfig" (no quotation marks)
Click the "startup" tab at the top right
Unchecked the "ALuNotify" startup item. See the screenshot below
Click "Apply"
Click "OK"
Click "Restart" to restart the computer for it to take effect.
When you restart it will tell you that you changed settings and want to take you to the same screen. Just check or uncheck the box for it not to tell you in the future. I can't remember exactly but it was pretty clear at the time.
I hope this works for you. Like I said before it did for me. Good luck

Thanks Keledole, I've used norton utilities to stop Liveupdate from starting up.
Thanks dbrisendine for your advice, i defragmented my D: drive but my C: didn't need to be done. also ran cleanup.
Thanks Stoneheart I downloaded and tried ATF CLEANER.
I'm in the process of updating drivers now.
