There is a major bug in NIS 2012.  This has happened TWICE now.  After performing a Smart Definition update, my Internet connection is completely BLOCKED.  I tried clicking on the little red 'X' in Network Sharing Center to have Windows 7 fix it.  I tried using Norton Firewall Diagnostics.  Nothing worked.  The only thing that works is rebooting.  I have included pic's below.  At the bottom, you see the results AFTER REBOOTING.  Shutting off the Smart Definition update and doing the full 148 MB update seems to avoid this problem.

No matter what I did above did not work.  Only rebooting fixed the problem:

When this happens after a LiveUpdate, have you tried rebooting the computer?

It takes time for images to work through moderations so hang on for that.

Meanwhile it will probably help others to help you if you provide some more basic information:-

What version of Windows are you using including Service Packs and whether 32 bit or 64 bit as well as the Name and Version ID of the Norton product that you are using -- Help or Support / About is where that is, in the format of nn.nn.nn.nnn where n is a number.

If you get any error messages please give the exact wording of them as well as any other background that could be helpful. 

Please also say what internet browser you are using -- name and version number ...

In Norton Security History, are there any entries in the Intrusion Prevention log that might explain why IPS is blocking access to your router?

I am using Windows 7 SP1, 64 bit.  My browser is FireFox 10.0.2 although I plan to upgrade to v12.0.  As I mentioned, the only way to fix the problem is to reboot which can be inconvenient.  I am using NIS 2012 19.7.0.9.  I want to add, I have never had any problems with NIS 2011.  I do not get any error messages other than the Windows Local Area Connection Status and Windows Taskbar icon shows I have no connection.

In my Security History, under Intrusion Prevention, there are no logs regarding blocking of any kind today.  The only entries are:
