MSWorks deleted by Norton IS Sonar?

Greetings,

I installed Norton Internet Security 2012 today (replacing an older version of Norton 360).  It seems my old copy of MS Works (version 4.5?) was removed from my computer.  I don't see anything in the quarantine folder or the history that states the file has been removed, but it is no longer on my computer.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Does this happen after running LiveUpdate to get the latest SONAR defs?  Can you please post a screenshot of the lgos showing the conviction?

Hi Bearly working,

Have you created a system restore earlier?

If so try to restore your sytem to the earlier date of your new installation.

This may fix the issue.

Thank you,

Sagar

Perhaps you will never get to the bottom of this if there is nothing in the quarantine folder. Are you sure it wasn't Windows that removed it? Sometimes Windows 7 has a habit of not loading older programs that it feels may not be compatible with its newer operating system.

To prevent the possibility ot this from happening again I would suggest changing the Norton Real Time Protection setting Remove Risks Automatically to Ask Me and adding an exclusion to Sonar before you try to re-instate MS Works.

Restoring Windows to a previous state seems a bit drastic to me. Can you not just simply re-install MS Works or do you not have the install or backup any longer?

You didn't say what operating system you were running but I checked the Microsoft compatibilty web site and Microsoft Works below version 2006 is officially not compatible with Windows 7 and is being phased out in favour of Microsoft Office Starter & Basic Editions, so it looks highly likely but not certain that it is Windows and not Norton that has deleted it.
