Norton Internet Security / Norton AntiVirus

Can You  remember the exact name of the file as it sounds odd? Have you done a full scan with Norton yet?

I think it was as the other person noted before

mbam.exe

I think it was as follows

C:\Windows\Programfiles\Malewarebytes\mbam.exe

But my wife reminds me that one time she did download malewarebytes, ran a scan, and then deleted it.

Is it possible that it "registered" itsellf into the start up programs and stayed there as an entry even though the program was deleted?

I can tell you this.  Norton could not protect my computer against the pavrm.exe trojan unless I paid them the extra $99 to take it off my computer.  But guess what the free version of Malewarebytes took it off with their little freeware program.  Thanks Norton!  Norton Internet Security which I pay a subscription for removed it, I restarted and it was still there.  I called - pleaded - argued that I already pay a subscribtion fee and why the extra fee for Norton to fix a mess they were supposed to be preventing.  But after having to ask the guy from India to repeat himself about 100 times, I gave up and went looking on the internet for the free program I had heard about Malewarebytes.  It took care of the problem in 2 minutes, and it was free, and I didn't have to wade through some heavy Indian accent for 3 hours!!!!

It also depends on what : Advanced Virus Remover" was lumped with to how to remove it, Systems are not identical.

" Advanced Virus Remover" just on it's own is EASY

Then why couldn't my Norton take care of getting rid of it?  If it was so easy?  I think it's just a way to make Norton more money.  I will not renew my subscribtion and I am taking other steps to find out why Norton charges $99 to fix it besides the subscription fee while a little freeware program takes care of it in 2 minutes.

It depends on the actual files with the infection and the instuctions it carries, then also, whether you got it before the rogue was in Nortons definitions.

There is really no Anti Virus which is perfect. Not malwarebytes and not Norton. The combination is doing the trick at the moment

Okay, that does not answer my question!  Why can malwarebytes remove it and not Norton?!!!  Does it carry instructions that only malwarebytes can remove it?

My problem is with Norton saying they could only correct the problem if I paid them $99!  I have everything scanned on my computer by Norton, email, downloads, pics, everything and I pay for the service and still I get this problem I have spent hours with Norton to try to get fixed.  When I only needed 2 minutes with this free little program.  That is my point.

My answer, does answer your question,  

1.  depends on the malware's instuctions and how it has been told to act on AV's  Some malware affect realtime AV's and stop the likes of MBAM, SAS..................................... from being installed and or run.

2. Depends on whether you got the infection before any defintions were created for it.
