Re: Malwarebytes v1.60

Hello

I rather run NIS 2012 Idle Full System Scans once a week. The Idle Quick Scans are so light, I don't know they are running and I end up interrupting them like 3 times until it runs it even while my computer isn't idle.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

Hello Phoneman

What happens if both NIS and Malwarebytes wants to run their live updates at the same time? What happens if NIS live update finds an antivirus update and that in turn would kick off a quick idle scan? Malwarebytes is fine as an on demand scanner, but even doing just live updates on both products will still interfere because they both do live updates and they both do quick scans of important areas.  If you feel it is that important to update Malwarebytes that often or to check for updates that often, then I would rather run the live updates manually at a time when NIS isn't doing one. Sounds like between the 2 programs, it's going to be running live updates all the time and running these quick scans all the time.

Hi floplot,

I believe NIS is smart enough to not run any scans while MBAM is active. I do not see any need to to be  too concerned with with updating MBAM religiously as NIS is,  and should be,  the first line of defense.

Thanks, Dave.

Re: Malwarebytes v1.60

Krusty13,

Norton may be 'smart' but I do not think it is to the point of being able to qualify as an AI program. Having two really good programs in the same place tryin to do the same job at the same time is about the best invitation to disaster I can recommend. The only way you might improve your chances for a total melt down would be to add a third program with realtime components to the mix.

The fact that it hasn't happend - the total melt down - does not confirm that it cannot or will not happen. Do remember that Mr. Murphy is alive and well on the Internet and does tend to visit when least expected or desired.

Hi dickevans,

I completely agree!  I only use MBAM as an on demand only scanner as recommended.

What I meant was - Say I am running a Full Scan with MBAM which lately has been taking around 50 minutes on my system.  In the background N360 (In my case) installs an antivirus definition.  Will N360 commence to run a scan at the same time?

Hi Dave,

I'm not sure. If I were worried about it I'd turn on silent mode for the duration of the scan then go back to normal oerations.

Hi all -

Just my opinion...

Spending $25 (USA) for the full version is rather pointless when you can run it on demand for free, without any compatibility issues.

Re: Malwarebytes v1.60

This week I had a problem with MB 1.6 not updating. Went over to Malwarebytes forum and as recommended used their uninstaller and reinstalled MB 1.6 and all is well. While over there there was a discussion about running MB and NIS 2012 with realtime protection turned on. It was stated that MB was designed and tested to not interfere with NIS and other AV programs and some of their staff members were running MB and NIS together with no conflicts. So my question is: has Norton did any in depth testing of this combination or have any cases of known conflicts? Or is the recommendation to not run them together just a standard policy and assuming it is a problem. I personally have seen no problems doing this but what do I know, I'm just a consumer. Would really like to see some actual proof of a problem and not just a general recommendation.

Hi,

Would you be able to advise how I turn off MBAM realtime protection.

Many thanks :)

Hi EB1234,

This will be a guess.... Open MBAM and click on Protection.  Does it have an option to disable protection?

How do you disable the Malwarebytes Real Time Protection Module?

  1. Right-click on the MBAM icon in the System Tray and uncheck Enable Protection.

  2. When asked, "Are you sure you want to disable the MBAM Protection Module?", click Yes.

  3. Right-click on the MBAM icon again and then uncheck Start with Windows.

  4. The Protection Module is now disabled and will not restart.
Alternatively, you can right-click on the MBAM icon in the systray, chose Exit and then click Yes at the prompt asking "Are you sure you want to disable the MBAM Protection Module?"

Another way to keep MBAM from loading at startup is to launch MBAM, click the Protection Tab and uncheck Start with Windows under General Settings.

To re-enable, right-click on the MBAM icon in the systray and select Enable Protection. Right-click again and select Start with Windows.
