Re: Missing Norton Extension for Firefox 11 (using Norton Internet Security 2012)

Yeah, up to the point that Download Updates and Process Updates becomes Not Required on the LiveUpdate panel. Just as I have explained on my first post, I did all of those with a reboot/restart of my system. But still no Norton Firefox Extension working for my Firefox11 browser, only working on my Chrome browser =(

Re: Missing Norton Extension for Firefox 11 (using Norton Internet Security 2012)

Hi Emmanne08,

You have  added the entries in extension.ini with backslash at the end

Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn\
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn\

Could you add these entries without backslash at the end and check the issue?

Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn

Thanks,

Senthil

Re: Missing Norton Extension for Firefox 11 (using Norton Internet Security 2012)

Hello senthilkumar, it worked like magic!

I would like to compile my findings after doing the workaround you have enumerated:

I didn't have any firefox extensions installed a while ago on my freshly installed Firefox 11. While doing your advice, I accidentally placed the 2 Extensions on the ThemeDirs on my first attempt thus making it like this on my extensions.ini:

[ExtensionDirs]

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}
Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn

When I noticed my mistake, I modified it to look like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

But it didn't work so I tried adding a trailing \ for the entries to make it like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn\
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn\

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

Then again it didn't work so I left it for a while and installed a firefox extension (DownThemAll), then I've read your post and gave it another try by removing the trailing \ . But as I'm about to remove the trailing \ , there I noticed that the 2 extension entries were erased after I installed the DownThemAll, making the extension.ini look like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension0=C:\Users\Emman\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions\{DDC359D1-844A-42a7-9AA1-88A850A938A8}.xpi

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

Then from there, I noticed that the extension should start at 0 and not at 1 (I started at 1 on my previous attempts). So this one finally worked when I modified it like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension0=C:\Users\Emman\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions\{DDC359D1-844A-42a7-9AA1-88A850A938A8}.xpi
Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

Now, the Norton SafeWeb and IdentitySafe now works on my Firefox 11 browser, though on the Extensions menu, the Norton extensions are still not listed, neither on the Plugins list.

Just now, I experimented a bit and installed another extension for Firefox (FlashGot). After restarting Firefox, the entries for the 2 Norton extension on the extension.ini disappeared again and became like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension0=C:\Users\Emman\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions\{DDC359D1-844A-42a7-9AA1-88A850A938A8}.xpi
Extension1=C:\Users\Emman\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions\{19503e42-ca3c-4c27-b1e2-9cdb2170ee34}.xpi

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

From there, it can be assumed that when adding/removing a new Firefox extension, the 2 Norton extension entries are always erased and it is a hassle thing to do to paste the same 2 lines of code over and over again when there's a change in the list of the Firefox extensions (caused by adding/removing). I hope the Norton devs would be able to address this issue on their future updates.

Thanks a ton senthilkumar! Thanks also to the members that tried to help me on this problem =)

Hi Senthil:

I just wanted to confirm something for future reference, since I`m still using NIS 2011 v. 18.7.0.13 on a 32-bit Vista machine (i.e., my NIS installation folder is C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\).  My FF11 extensions.ini file currently has the following paths for the Norton extensions:

Extension4=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_18.5.0.125\IPSFFPlgn
Extension5=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_18.5.0.125\coFFPlgn_2011_7_6_3

emmanne08 is using NIS 2012 on a 64-bit Win 7 machine, and I understand that NIS is installed in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\ folder on 64-bit OS machines.  Does NIS always install the updated .dll files for the Norton extensions (e.g., IPSFFPlgn.dll) in C:\ProgramData\Norton\... regardless of whether the user has a 32-bit or 64-bit OS, and does this have anything to do with the fact that Firefox is a 32-bit software program?

-----------------

Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 * NIS 2011 v. 18.7.0.13 * IE 9.0 * Firefox 11.0
HP Pavilion dv6835ca, Intel Core2Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83 GHz, 3.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

Hi Imacri,

Yes. Always NIS will install the updated  .dlls(e.g. CoFFplgn.dll) for the extensions irrespective of whether 32bit or 64bit OS.

Both users(32 and 64 bit) will have same dlls(e.g. CoFFplgn.dll) for the extensions

Hope this clarifies your doubt.

Thanks,

Senthil

Re: Missing Norton Extension for Firefox 11 (using Norton Internet Security 2012)

Thanks, I was going crazy trying to restore the Toolbar until I found your exchange here - Thanks for posting the exact contents of your extensions.ini.

Only by extrapolating from your setup to mine (Windows 7 professional, Norton 360, Firefox 11) and finding the equivalent folders on my machine was I finally able to get the Norton Toolbar back. Now if only Symantec would incorporate this method into their information for disgruntled users who've lost the toolbar, and also fix things via Live Update so users wouldn't have to become admins, search for the right folders and files, and edit extensions.ini themselves.

Well done both of you

It would be nice if admin T. Lopez would edit this statement or allow replies to it:

Re: Missing Norton Extension for Firefox 11 (using Norton Internet Security 2012)

I have NIS 2012 19.6.  Won't go to 19.7, until the "NIS engine" is Able to update; so far, Failing.

No problem with Norton Toolbar (have ID Safe).

Got the prompt, from Firefox to upgrade to ver 12. Did it. Now, NO Norton Toolbar. Seems the update for the Toolbar is in NIS VERSION 19.7!!!  Which I can NOT get yet.

If I use the Norton Remove/Re-install tool, I will have to re-install Norton Utilities 15 also??

Re: Missing Norton Extension for Firefox 11 (using Norton Internet Security 2012)

Hi markfr:

According to the support page here for the Norton Remove & Reinstall Tool, this tool will remove Norton Utilities at the same time that it wipes your NIS product off your computer.

If you find instructions in this forum for performing a manual clean re-install of your Norton product (see here for one example) the Norton Removal Tool mentioned in those instructions will also remove your Norton Utilities.
