Yes, you can do that. There is no need to run the Removal Tool, but it doesn't hurt, so you go ahead if you want to.

Keep in mind that the disc can be used as an important boot tool, but if you choose to reinstall, you are best to use the latest link from the website. That will reduce the number of updates necessary, and may solve some problems with actual program updates that require a reboot.

Calls,
If you just enter the KEY that came with the copy you bought from Target that will start a new subscription year for you -- so don't do it until a couple of days before your old subscription expires.
Once you have done that you can upgrade your NIS 2010 to NIS 2011 simply by Support / New Version Check [ The wording may be slightly different in 2010 but you should recognize it] and that should download and upgrade you to NIS 2011.
If it's a while yet before your 2010 subscription expires you can even upgrade to 2011 now and then use the new KEY when the subscription is about to run out.

Hi Calls,
I MUST say congratuations for taking this step and coming up to the latest version of NIS. NIS 2011 is better over 2010 as each year continues to see improvement both in terms of features and new technology.
Of course you realize that 2012 is pretty much around the corner so then we'll have to start "hounding" you about upgrading to NIS 2012 soon! ![]()
Seriously, we'll give you some time to get your hands around 2011 before we start encouraging an upgrade to 2012. ![]()
We'll be here to help you through the process. ![]()
Curious though, was it your mother in law's new computer with NIS 2011 that got you to this point?
Best wishes.

Just uninstall it normally. If the computer in questions is your HP Desktop, then please remember that using the Norton Removal Tool on this particular machine will result in a Code 19 error on your multi-card reader (see here for details).

No actually my current subscription runs out in a few weeks so thought I'd just but the 2011.

Hi Calls,
Thanks for satisfying my curiousity. ![]()
It will be good to have you on-board with the 2011 family!
I am sure you will like 2011 better than 2010 and just wait till you see the improvements in 2012!! ![]()
Best wishes.

You don't have to buy 2012 as long as your activation code for 2011 is valid; you can use it on 2012 too when you are ready.
