Hello all,
In the "Security History" section of Norton I have noticed an huge amount of messages, as many as 10-20 per minute.
Nearly every single one of them is the same "Unauthorized access blocked" message. I appreciate this is a normal
occurence, but I am slightly concerned at the frequency.
These are the advanced details:
Actor: C:\PROGRAM FILES\SAMSUNG\MAGICKBD\PERFORMANCEMANAGER.EXE
Actor PID: 2880
Target: C:\Program Files\Norton 360\Engine\4.3.0.5\mcui32.exe
Target PID: 2924
Action: Access Process Data
Reaction: Unauthorized access blocked
Can anyone tell me what is happening, whether it is normal and what I can do to stop it!!
Thanks in advance.

Hi EGSS1984,
Yes, it's normal and no, there isn't anything you can do to stop it. Anytime a program tries to access a Norton file or process it will be blocked to prevent any outside interference with Norton's operations. Each of these events is logged in the Norton Product Tamper Protection history and there are many programs that routinely show up there - some of them frequently, as in your case. It is nothing to be concerned about.

Thank you very much for your quick reply!
The strange thing is that before it would only happen very infrequently (last recorded message was on 01/27) and
since last night it's up to 20 times per minute continuously, for as long as the computer is online. The Security History
log is overloaded with messages.
So I don't have to worry as long as the threat was blocked?

Hi EGSS1984,
It is not unusual for a program like yours to suddenly start appearing with such frequency in the Norton logs. You don't have to worry about these events causing any problems. However, it really isn't necessary for most programs to access Norton in this way, and in general it is preferable for programs to be designed to access only what is essential to their operation. So if the log entries get too annoying you might want to contact the vendor just to let them know that their application may be trying to access more areas of your system than it really needs to.

Hi, Send ... this was why I removed QuickTime. The scans were always blocked by NIS but some were listed as Moderate in the threat rating and they were too numerous to put up with ...so I just got rid of it.
And the thought occurred to me, 'what else is it scanning that I _don't_ know about ...' ... all I needed it to do was to open when I wanted to play a *.mov file and then go back to sleep when I was done watching *.mov files. It didn't play nice.
