Please download and run the Norton Power Eraser from this link. Run the program and make sure that in the Options it is set to scan in Regular / Standard mode; not Aggressive Mode. Review the files it wants to delete by clicking on the highlighted file name in the report window before letting it delete / fix the problems.

Hello
It would also be a good idea to take a screen shot of what it does show after making the details show up. You can add the screen shot by saving it in paint and using the little tree symbol in the tool bar of this post message area. This way someone can tell you which files are safe to have the tool remove.

Hello sunstorm
It will take a little time before we can see the screen shots since the Mods have to approve the screen shots first. Thanks
Once your computer is all cleaned up, you can upgrade to NIS 2010 for free if you have a valid, current license. We can give you instructions on how to do that if you desire to upgrade to the newer version of NIS.

OK. Norton power eraser found two risks. And the first risk it found had to do with the antimalware doctor because I looked up the process online. So norton power eraser removed it. And my computer restarted. And I guess it did its job because now the antimalware doctor does not appear on start up as it used to do when I scanned with malware bytes. But unfortunately, the antimalware doctor program is still in my startup list listed as a program.
Also, YES I JUST NOTICED MY NORTON IS WORKING and it can now update. So that's an improvement. I'll scan with norton, spybot, and malware bytes to see if the malware can remove itself from startup list. And I'll let you know if it does.
@ the last poster, can you list the steps I have to do in order to upgrade to the newest norton.
:)
Edit: My norton live update isn't finishing the update. It fails to complete the last stage which says 'Process updates'

Have the NPE fix both of the files it found. Then reboot and see if your problem is cleared up.

Hello sunstorm
Here are the steps you can do once you are sure that your computer is completely cleaned up from the malware.
1. Please save your identity safe file if you use that feature.
Please follow these instructions to save your Identity Safe information by creating NPM file.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nco.nsf/0/e5a
Thanks to Yaso for the link.
2. Since you were having problems with NIS, I would recommend using the Norton Removal Tool. Be aware that will remove all Symantec products. You can download the Removal Tool from here and save it to your desktop.
You can download the Norton Removal tool from
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view
Please pick the proper Norton product that you want to remove. Also please be aware that it will remove all Norton products, so back up Identity Safe using the program to back that up. Also please have your product key handy.
Thank you Allen for new link
3. Please get your product key from www.mynortonaccount.com
4. Please download NIS 2010 and save it to your desktop, but don't run it yet.
Please disconnect from the net since the removal tool will leave you without protection.
5. After saving your identity safe info, run the removal tool 2 times with a reboot after each run of it.
6. Run the install of NIS 2010 and connect back to the net when it wants you to. It should pick up your key automatically, but in case it doesn't, you will have got it from mynortonaccount.
7. Run live update repeatedly until you get all the updates. and then reboot again.
Please let us know how you made out. Thanks.
