You are very welcome.
I don't have any problems wıth the NIS 2012,
nor had any wıth the earlıer versıon the NIS 2011,
whıch was my favorıte.
However sınce you do seem to have problems,
may ı suggest the followıng.
Many problems people have wıth the NIS or any other securıty program,
ıs because theır pc's are not properly maıntaıned,
or,there may be remnants of former securıty suıtes present,
or even remnants of former NIS present on the system.
What ı always do ıs thıs:
Don't be content wıth the Norton Removal Tool to remove every trace of the program.
Go to 'Program Fıles' and delete any NIS Folder, then go
to your' logon name', AND 'All Users'open 'applıcatıon data' and check 'for any NIS Folder(s)
Delete them.
Fınally empty your 'temp' and 'prefetch' pages
clean out the drıve,
Use CCleaner (ıf you don't have ıt ı recommend you get ıt ıt's FREE)
to search and delete what ever ıt fınds.(remove old entrıes from the regıstry as well)
It's pretty safe(ın my opınıon.
Then reboot,
Check ıf your drıve needs defragmentıng ıf so do ıt,
and then re ınstall your securıty suıte.
Proper maıntaınıng of the system ıs essentıal,
ıf ıt ıs to perform at optımal level.
If you have any questıon /comments please
feel free to ask.
P.S Another thıng ı would do,BUT would NOT recommend (ıf you are NOT famılıar and at ease wıth the 'Regıstry Edıtor)
ıs remove any entrıes there about any other Securıty Suıtes,
that may be stıll lısted.
But that's only somethıng someone experıenced should do,
and you probably DON'T NEED IT.
Just thought ı mentıon ıt,as ı use ıt when necessary.

I have made note of your suggestions which I appreciate.
I have Norton Security Suite free for Comcast users, ver 5.1.0.29.
All seems to be running well.

I need to clarıfy the followıng:
I wrote
'
'Use CCleaner (ıf you don't have ıt ı recommend you get ıt ıt's FREE)
to search and delete what ever ıt fınds.(remove old entrıes from the regıstry as well)'
By that ı meant that CCleaner wıll remove any old entrıes from the regıstry as well,
that ıs ıf you so wısh.

I use Ccleaner often but only the Windows part or as you are suggesting, entries from an old program.
Thank you

,I was going through your directions regarding purging the machine of Norton and had a question about your following quote,"
then go to your' logon name', AND 'All Users'open 'applıcatıon data' and check 'for any NIS Folder(s)
Delete them. I could not find this.
Also, two comments if I may;
Emptying the entire prefetch folder will slow it down so you must be referring to just the entries regarding Norton, and
defragmenting will slow down any images you create as backups because the program recognizes rearranged files and the image becomes larger almost the size of a full image.
There certainly are so many caveats and conflicts these days.![]()

Ok,
1.C:/Documents & Settings/Anna 1?/ OR All Users,
meaning,
Double click My Computer(on your desktop)>then the C: Drive(assuming that's where your windows installation is)
then double click Documents &Settings, then double click the folder that has your name on it(that's your logon name)
then double click Application Data,
if there is anything of Norton delete it.
Where the Application Data is,you'll also see the Start Menu folder,
look in there as well.
Then again Documents &Settings, and this time double click the All Users folder,
follow the steps as with your logon name.
Re:the prefetch ,don't worry about it will repopulate soon enough,
delete everything.
Re:defragmenting if your drive is badly defragmented, and windows own or any other defragmenting tool,
advises you to defragment ,i would do so.
İ'm on W..XP and regularly defragment my drive,
i find it very useful indeed, with no problems re back ups,
or anything else.
İf you have any more questions / comments,
feel free to ask.

Thank you for being so generous with your time.
All is clear except your quote below.
I have Win 7 x 64 and should have stated that to begin with -sorry.
The following quote from you understandably will not work with different o.s.'s
I can get to 'users' by opening the C: drive where it has 2 folders -public and us. I open us which is who we are and see all my libraries and documents and a lot of other data but no documents and settings. Then in Windows I do not find documents + settings.Perhaps it is the 'users' folder you are referring to?

Well i'm not familiar with W.7 therefore ı can't tell you where to find what.
However, there is an easy way to find out anything you may need.
You can either search on Google for info,
by writing your question on the search box,
or go to Mıcrosoft Forum sites, where you can ask and get answers there.
All you'll have to do is register.
Or go to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=84 This forum ıs excellent to ask and get answers to your questıons.
Or go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum167.ht
Or go to http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/forum/79-windows-vi
İ can still answer any security questıons you may have,
and can suggest and recommend important FREE programs to add to the security your NİS provides.
Let me know how you go.

I feel you have helped me as much as different o.s.'s allow and also feel the isues are resolved.
I find What The Tech and Major Geeks to be good resources and have used them for years.
Right now I am working on ERUNT.EXE as ERUNT is not compatible with Win 7x64. Altho I have the work arounds for ERUNT I would hope ERUNT.EXE can be downloaded and not have to be modified.
So, it's on to that next project..
Thank you

You are welcome.
Re:extra security
Hope you're familiar and using Win Patrol PLUS.
İt's an absolute must have,
a real gem..
Works perfectly well with the NİS.
So i highly recommend it.
Regards.
