N.I.S. 16.5.0.134: Web Protection Defintions Failed to Install (8920,208)

Hi, Everyone,

I Ran Norton LiveUpdate and it Downloaded something like 1.25M.B. and then, after it Downloaded the Updates, it was Installing Two Updates, and the, after a few seconds, it informed me that the Install had "Failed to Complete".  So, I Turned Off the computer for a few hours and then Truned it back On.  I then Ran Norton LiveUpdate again, and it still said "Failed to Complete" on the Web Protection Definitions' Updates.

"Norton LiveUpdate was un-able to Install an Update" (8920,208)

Hi Floating_Red,

I noticed that you had a similar problem with a slightly different error code a few days ago.

I know you are very familiar with the product, but have you tried One Click Support and have you checked out this KB article for error code 8920,208?

Norton 360 • Norton Internet Security • Norton Zone | XP SP3 • Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64

Re: N.I.S. 16.5.0.134: Web Protection Defintions Failed to Install (8920,208)

Hi, Phil_D,

Thanks for your comment.

The other Error was at the "Check for Updates"; this one is at "Process Updates".

And yes I have had a look at the Article for the Error Code.

It's weird that this Error has started again, two months until Norton 2010 Products are roughly going to be Released, as it happened for about two months after I Installed the Norton 2009 when it was Released with the W.P.D.s.

Just thought I'd provide an Update.  I went to the Web Protection Definitions to Check the Date of the Definitions, and it was up-to-date.  But I am still getting those two "Failed to Complete" Web Protection Definitions I Reported yesterday.

Floating_Red -

Please attach the LiveUpdate log to this thread. The LiveUpdate log is present in the location:

X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{GUID}\Norton\LUE\Logs\Log.Lue   , where X is the drive where the Operating System is installed.

Thanks,

Sanjan

Hi, Sanjan,

I followed the instructions you gave me and, at the Log.Lue, it told me along the lines of that a File was missing and would I like to Search for it.  Please let me know what you want to do next.

Floating_Red,

Please provide me with the LiveUpdate log. This will help me in determing the cause of the issue. Also, please check if you are still noticing the LiveUpdate error.

Thanks,

Sanjan

Re: N.I.S. 16.5.0.134: Web Protection Defintions Failed to Install (8920,208)

Hi,

I can't seem to Upload the Norton LiveUpdate Logs due to the following Issues:

- "The file does not have a valid extension for an attachment. txt,log are the valid extensions."

- "The attachment file size is too large. The maximum file size is: 1,024,000 bytes"

Is there any other way I can collect the Logs and perhaps Post a Screen Shot?
