Norton Auto.-Fix reported Error 3048,3 to me, and clicking on the "Open Support Web Site" leads to this Web Page. Could not complete the Norton Power Eraser (N.P.E.) due to an Error. I use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware on a frequent basis, and do Daily Full System Scan with N.I.S., and these have Detected nothing, even in Safe Mode. Because I couldn't use N.P.E., I used TDSSKiller from Kaspersky which Detected nothing. Any suggestions on what could be causing this? I'm thinking something has gone wrong with N.I.S.? I have already re-installed N.I.S. a few weeks' ago, and this Error is still appearing. It could be a threat, but this seems un-likely. Please let me know if you wish to investigate this. Thanks!

Hi FloatingRed,
Just a few comments/questions.
Perhaps if you provided the exact wording of the error from NPE someone could assist with that information.
If you follow the KB article you cited through to the end it will find a What if this didn"t work? Which will take you to the Remove and Renistall Tool. Also on the RnRT link you will find some comments about receiving errors or the RnRT failed to run. It also includes a link for the Norton Removal Tool which is what we suggest to run if for some reason the RnRT does not work - or fails to correct the problem.
When you did the reinstall a few weeks ago did you use the Norton Removal Tool after removing it via the Control Panel?
Also, I assume you are using free versions of MBAM & SAS. It sounds like you are using them on demand as recommended.
<edit> I just spotted your other post : http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Sec
I know there is a new NPE in Beta and it is 3.1.0.8 - so you may be better off trying to locate the current non-beta version. <edit>

Hi, yank.
Thanks for your Message.
I un-installed N.I.S. through "Add or Remove Programs", re-started, then use Norton Utilities to clean the Registry, then Ran the Norton Removal Tool which stated it didn't find a Norton/Symantec Product to Remove. I then re-installed Norton. Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks for the feedback. What you did should suffice for the intent of providing a clean install of NIS.

I understand that yank and agree with you. However, this Error has re-occurred as mentioned in Message One since re-install.

Just to let you know, I just had a Symantec Service Framework Stopped Responding. Turned On Silent Mode, dis-connected from Internet, then when I Click on "Full System Scan", under "Scan Now", it Stopped Responding.

Just curious, do you have any other Security Programs installed that couldbe running in Real-time? Something like MBAM Pro, SAS Pro, or Spybot S & D (with Tea-timer enabled)? Have you ever done any Beta testing of Norton or perhapos some other AV na dhave left overs from them? It sounds like a conflict of sorts to me.
Also curious why you selected Silent Mode?

check error in event viewer does it say anything about symhtml.dll(faulting module)? this is a bug norton is investigating

Hi, yank,
Thanks for you Message.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is just an On-Demand Scanner, as is SUPERAntiSpyware. I have never Tested any Norton Products in BETA; have only used Norton.
I put SIlent Mode On so that no Background Tasks Run when doing a Full System Scan as this will slow the Scan, and also because I am dis-connected from the Internet.
Hope this answers your concerns.

Hi, Topopurim47,
Thanks for your Message/Suggestion/Request.
I checked the Logs and the Fault that caused this was "ccSvcHst.exe".
