Just upgraded my NAV to 2012 Version 19.1 and my Zone Alarm Pro will not open. It seems as if it is running in TaskManager, but I can't open the program up to check settings or review logs. It is also not appearing in my Systray. Is this a known incompatility between the two programs? How to fix? PS I do NOT want to uninstall either program. Thank you.

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum
I used to use ZAP and System Works together which conatins NAV. There have been conflicts between the 2 programs for the last few years. You have to be so careful now when you try to run both programs together so that the same function isn't done by both functions. I stopped using ZAP when I started using NIS 2011. Although I liked ZAP, I do find it easier to have to deal with just 1 security program real time and not have to worry if something is going to overlap and cause problems. It might be able to configure the 2 programs to work together. You may have to uninstall ZAP and reinstall it so that you can pick the parts that have to be disabled so that NAV works ok. I stopped with ZAP in the middle of m y subscription year even. I found in the logs that there were always parts that would be blocked by the other program, so I'm not too sure how effective either program was when they were both installed at the same time.

Actually, there has been no conflict at all between the 2 programs for several years.
I know because I have 2 systems setup that way. ZoneAlarm Pro doesn't have any AV or spyware scanner, it's basically just a firewall but much more configurable than the free version.
I think it was versions 9 or 9.1 forward that never had a conflict.
I could have sworn I tried that combination with the public beta because thats what I use on one of my main systems.
I'll see if I have time today to test the 2 programs again.

NAV 2012 is not compatible with ZoneAlarm Pro. ZoneAlarm Pro consists of additional layers of protection that can conflict with the functioning of NAV 2012. It should have prompted you to uninstall ZoneAlarm during the installation process. Do you remember seeing any such alert from NAV 2012 during installation?
For the best experience, we recommend that you choose a standalone firewall to compliment your installation of Norton AntiVirus, or if you do not already have one, consider upgrading to Norton Internet Security or Norton 360 which both have the Norton Smart Firewall included.

For what it's worth, I been using ZA Pro alongside NAV for at least a couple years. I'm not sure about NAV 2009 but definatly with the 2010 and 2011 versions on 2 systems. One of those systems is my main computer and I use it each and every day and I never encounted a problem.
Yes you do get a warning when trying to install NAV, but I just choose the option to ignore it and install it anyway.
I think a lot of the confusion that people have is that ZA Pro used to have a malware scanner as part of it but that was removed years ago. Now it's basically just a firewall.
I have not used it with NAV 2012 much at all, so I have no idea if problems between the 2 now exist and I understand that because of the Norton warning it is not supported.
I'm sure I did in fact test it with the public beta, I just did it again to make sure.
Here they are running alongside each other in Windows XP (virtualPC).
This is ZAP version 9.1.008.000 (thats what I have installed on my main system do I wanted to use that version).
I also just installed it onto a real physical system running Windows 7 pro, 32bit.
I first used the current version 10.0.250.000 and they both seemed to work fine together but I hated the new GUI in zone alarm. (I didn't have the time right now to figure everything out and customize it the way I like it)
I then uninstalled it and installed an older version with the GUI I am used to. version 9.3.037.000
Although I recall using it a while with the public beta, I have not used it very much at all with the 2012 released version of NAV. But you can see that I don't have any trouble starting the programs, they both open quickly.
If you choose to do this, please do so at your own risk. Although I never had a single problem in the last few years I have not spent much time at all using them with the 2012 version.

I have Norton AV 2012 installed and running along with Zone Alarm pro version 10 for a few weeks and they are working just fine togeather. Choose ignore and install went fine.

I did see the notice come up about uninstalling ZAPro and AdAware, which I chose to ignore. I've used my ZAPro for many years alongisde NAV with no issues until the opportunity to download NAV2012 came up. Right now the ZAP won't open when I click on the program. Since it's a firewall with no av feature, I find it particularly irritating that NAV has chosen to knock it out of commission.

This issue might have been caused by the conflict between Enhanced Vulnerability Protection (a.k.a Intrusion Prevention Signatures) in Norton AntiVirus 2012 and the 0-Hour Protection Technology in ZAP.
Also there might be some compatibility issues with Email Scanning feature in Norton AntiVirus and Mailsafe in ZAP.
Generally the workaround is,
1. Remove both NAV 2012 and ZAP. Re-install NAV 2012 first and then install ZAP.
2. If needed, you can disable the conflicting features in either one of the applications.
My recommendation is that, you can replace both NAV 2012 and ZAP with a single application - Norton Internet Security 2012.
Thanks & Regards,

The problem may also be with you using Lavasoft Adaware. That now also has an antivirus component which may be coming into play with this combination. It might be Adaware's fault as you now have 2 antivirus programs installed also.
