NAV09 Error 8921,229 (Unable to connect to the Norton LiveUpdate server)

[ Edited ]

Hello,

a while ago some of our pc's who all run Norton 2009 started giving an error when trying to update (8921.246). after searching the internet we found a hotfix for this issue. after applying the hotfix, we started receiving a different error (8921.229)

This one we cannot seem to resolve. we tried different steps reccomended by the symantec support pages and some of our own.

( the symantec support page used : http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080818112851EN&ln... )

- manual update

- full system scan

- DNS fix tool

- Manual DNS flush

- Disabling the windows firewall

- Completely removing (with the norton removal tool) and reinstalling Norton 2009
- Scanned the pc for mallware using Malwarebytes and superanyispyare (nothing found)

I also checked the LU.log. it seems that it cannot connect to liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com for the updates.

but a manual ping, tracert and telnet (on port 80) works fine.

I also used the norton live chat support and chatted with someone from Symantec. after trying some steps he told us that it is a know issue and that they are working on it, and that i can expect a fix soon. but that was 3 weeks ago. We are manually updating ever since.

I Hope someone can help us out.

Best Regards,

Re: NAV09 Error 8921,229 (Unable to connect to the Norton LiveUpdate server)

Have you checked with your ISP to se if they have made any changes?  Are there any HTTP 1.1 / 1.0 issues on the network paths at all?

Hi Leon,

Can let us know the version of your NAV 2009 from Help & Support > About?

Do you use any router for connecting to the Internet? If so, did you check the router firewall?

Do you use any proxy server for connecting to the Internet?

Do you have any parental control program installed?
