I am wondering if all Norton products should be removed using the Norton Removal Tool (run as Administrator) to remove any leftovers (conflicts) from N360 and NIS, then go about getting Windows to see the DVD drive.

What make is the laptop?

ok i finally got it to work. i tried the second link on the first page again just in case i didn't click something properly. turns out i was right, thats touch sensitive mousepads for ya and one of the reasons i will never buy a laptop. sorry for sounding curt earlier i've had a bad time with technology lately. my xbox360 got hacked and it took me 3 and a half months to get it sorted and that only happened when i threatened them with legal action. thanks again for all the help guys
