There is obviously a problem GORPY1. What is your operating system and service pack level? Have you just upgraded to the latest version or have you had it on for a while? What other issues do you have? Is your internet connection working well? Check your event viewer under application and system to see what errors are listed. Also check for any W32time errors.

Thanks delphinium for the reply I have XP Media Ed, with SP3 and IE8 I've had NIS 18.6.0.29 for a long time months and months and Norton for years, It's really hot here with my ISP (broadband) you never now, W32time sychronized today and every day. The last time today(it happenned twice) it was like Norton disappeared from my computer even in the task bar which is sei to always display. Ran MBAM (free) and a full Virus Scan.Nothing.......Hope it stops.......Thanks Gorpy1

Check the task bar and ensure that the "hide icons" is unchecked. There is usually two icons for Norton, although I only saw one on XP. It may be causing some confusion with the icons. Check in event viewer if you haven't already.
Start>control panel>administrative tools>event viewer>application and system. Also, next time it happens, check the task manager to see if ccsvchost is still running. Are you able to run liveupdate during the time it appears to be working?

Hello Delph
I have 1 Norton icon in task bar and 1 Norton icon on desktop for NIS 2011
I have xp pro sp 3 IE 8 compat. mode and no problems with NIS 2011. and the latest version of NIS 2011.
No problems here like that.
Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

Gorpy1, when you are able to get the tray icon, please right-click on it and choose to View Recent History. From the Security History windows Show the Norton Error Reporting entries. Are there any in there? If so, please right-click on one and Copy it to the clipboard and then paste it into a reply to this thread.

Yes and no. Unfortunately this particular error didn't have the information that I was hoping to find. If you can find an entry that doesn't have the 104,8504 part and provide it that would help.
P.S. Ooops, looks like we crossed messages. Your more recent message has what I was looking for. I'll research it a bit more and get back to you.
