I'm having the same exact problem. No add-ons, just the default NIS2008 trial with all protection updates installed.
I'm using a trial version because I'm not burning another 1-of-3-PC-license. Not until this is fixed :). I would rather stay with Norton and their AV, but if this isn't fixed soon I'll be jumping ship to another manufacturer or going back to XP (which is already activated).
If you want me to give you guys a hand with software testing, please contact me via email. It is the one I registered my account with. I'll check in on this forum in a few days to see what is going on too.
Anyway...Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1.

hi night_2044 - i think the problem is with the version of msl.dll (whatever that is). i have several boxes and they are all running 107.0.5.5 of that file and i haven't seen that problem. can you run luall from the command line and see if there are any updates that may be failing silently?
anyone at SYMC have any ideas on this one?

hello night_2004,
I'm sorry to learn about the problem with Service Framework crashes and sincerely appreciate your willingness to help us gather additional information. I'll provide you with some instructions about how to gather up the data that will help, but can you provide any additional details about when the crash occurs. There appears to be a strong indication elsewhere in this thread that the crash is occuring during scanning and if that is the case for you, can you identify what file types appear to provoke the crash? Do you notice anything else about the timing of the crash?
Here's a document with instructions on how to obtain and run the logtool (please select all three "advanced" options):
Title: 'Sending log file information to Symantec Technical Support'
Document ID: 2006071711255039
> Web URL: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf
If you let me know when you have them, I'll send you a PM and provide you with an upload location. Again, many thanks for your willingness to help out.
Matt

Hi MelodicWynd:
How do you run the command line version of Live Update? The GUI version of the program indicates that all is going well, but if my DLL is old that could definitely cause a problem.
Hi Matt:
The only time that NIS2008 crashes on me is when scanning. I will set up a separate partition on my PC and upload different types of files and do scans to try and narrow down the type of file that is crashing NIS2008. The crash always seems to occur after the same amount of time with roughly the same amount of files have been scanned, and this only happens with Vista SP1 (XP SP2 is fine thus far). Vista's event logs do not really help me, other than providing the information that I posted earlier.
I'll try running the log tool, then do the LU, and then the log tool again to see if the DLL update helps any. I should be able to get the info that you are asking for by the end of the day Monday (I'm away from the PC for most of the weekend thanks to my jobs).

Alright, I have the log files and a few other things that might help out. I ran the LiveUpdate via the command line and got NO errors, and the product is fully updated.
I kind of screwed up and had to stop the scan, enable scanning within compressed files (I had turned that off in an effort to troubleshoot), and re-do the scan. So the log files might be a hair larger than you want, but perhaps there might be some useful info in there after all.
Here's a snapshot showing what file it crahsed on. I'm running another scan to see if it crashes on the same file right now, but I don't recall there being a pattern here...but I'll make sure.
Anyway, to where do I deliver the files?

Mine still crashes. I would be more than happy to provide any help in troubleshooting. Just let me know what I can do. Symantec telephone support was not really any help and they have not called me back. They uninstalled my NIS and removed all Symantec shared folders which caused my Save & Restore to stop working and all the backup databases had to be rebuilt. Frustrating...

Hi night_2004,
Thanks for the additional information. I've sent you a PM.

Hello,
I have been reading this thread with interest. I too am running NIS 2008 on Vista Home Premium. I installed it in Jan of this year and until recently it ran perfectly. Now I regularly get the following 2 messages:
"Symantec Service Framework stopped working & was closed" and
"LuCallBack Proxy module stopped working and was closed"
And occassionally I get this message:
"CNDNDIg stopped working and was closed"
Can anyone help me? I am worried that my laptop is not fully protected.
