I have got a copy of NIS2009 on CD and I am unable to install it, I have also downloaded NIS2010 and it has the same problem.
They both start installing, download the latest virus definitions and then do a scan. They both then show that they are finishing the install.
Then I get a screen saying they are collecting error logs. Then they compress them.
I then get informed that the install performed a cleanup and I need to reboot.
I have rebooted and tried installing again, same error.
I have run the Norton Removal tool and I still get the same problem.
I now have no protection on my machine and no idea what to do to get NIS installed.

Welcome to the Norton Community
Run the Removal Tool twice rebooting each time.
Download and install the latest NIS 2009 from here

Hello pbwarren,
What security software did you have prior to Norton? Was it completely uninstalled?
Do you have any other security software currently installed?
Also, if you can tell us which operating system you are using along with the service pack, that would further help us with diagnosing your issue.
Thanks.

I have run the removal tool twice, rebooting between runs and I get the same problem.
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1.
I used to use anti-ver for my virus protection which I have completly removed.

Hi pbwarren,
Can you navigate to C:\ProgramData\NortonInstaller and look in the subdirectories for a file called scanresults.txt? If you can find it, please attach it a reply to this thread.
Thanks!

Hi pbwarren,
Do you see any folder names with dates under the following path?
C:\ProgramData\NortonInstaller\Logs
For example,
C:\ProgramData\NortonInstaller\Logs\08-18-2009-16h
Can you look into these folders including the main one under "..\Logs\" for any files named "scanresults.txt"
Thanks,
Matt

Thanks pbwarren,
Can you please also attach the "NortonInstall[Date/Time].log" file as well. Please look for it inside the same folders and attach the 2-3 most recent logs (one per folder).
Thanks!
Matt
