Re: NIS 2009 crashes rundll32.exe process

Sorry if i misled ANYONE to think, that I was trying to drift from the main issue here... There IS an error with the recent NIC update and it has to be solved, and fast... That simple! I was just trying to say the same as someone else had said before me - that uninstalling and re-installing wouldnt sålve the problem if it has to do with the update - and that I therefor wouldnt suggest that people use their time on that. Rather than that they should relax and try the work around suggest by others. This will let you do the most important scans... BUT DONT FORGET TO POST A NOTE ABOUT IT - TO LET SYMANTEC KNOW THAT THEY DO HAVE AN ISSUE...

The current patches seem to have fixed both machines here. More time will tell if that appearance is valid. Previously, running manual scans provoked the crash. I am now able to scan both computers with the Tracking Cookies set to Remove.

After reading all of the 'robust' responses in this thread regarding this issue, I innocently ask.. has Symantec issued a 'liveupdate' to reslove this problem, or not?

I guess I will try another approach to solicit a response to my previous question.

Has any Symantec employee posted to this thread indicating that Symantec has actually 'fixed' this problem?

As I have read this thread, at this point, there has been an indication that a liveupdate has been issued by Symantec that has 'fixed' this problem. If this is accurate, where is a statement or posting by a Symantec employee to confirm this?

Is there any specificity as to which update this is, should there be one, that we the Symantec customer base can rely upon to reinstate our confidence in the NIS 2008 or NIS 2009 products?

I seem to remember that when the 'Framework' problem 'fix' was accomplished it was posted that if you had Version xxxx you had received the 'fix'. That certainly provided me with the confidence that my computer system was being proficiently protected by my NIS 2009.

The link below shows a response from a Symantec employee.  15th post in the thread

Most likely many of the Symantec employees in the USA are enjoying a 4-day Thanksgiving holiday which could be the reason they are not showing up on the forum.  :smileywink:

Problem solved. I ran Live Update until no new updates were available, and ran both a Quick and Comprehensive scan. No error, cookies were identified and removed. Thanks everyone.

I've tried twice to post a detailed description of problems after updates on one machine here today. ccsvchst.exe is hogging the CPU to a crippling extent. My posts have been dumped twice in some sort of Authentication snafu.

I retract part of my previous statement, because a new problem has developed on the heels of a Live Update. There was another Update package of 4 after I got home this evening. It seems to work OK for a while, but then ccsvchst.exe uses so much CPU that mp3s won't play smoothly.

Re: NIS 2009 crashes rundll32.exe process

If you have to put together a lengthy, or time consuming while you check this and that <s>, message it can be a good idea to do it off-line, say in Notepad but not in a full featured word processor like WORD, and paste it into the reply editor.

That way you won't run into the idle time limit that servers may have if they find your connection not actively doing something.

Thanks. I'll have to keep that in mind for longer posts.

The issues once again >>seem<< to be resolved. There have been several Live Updates. Time will tell if the next series of updates breaks things again.
