NIS (2009) has 4 instances of ccSVcHst.exe running.

Dear friend -

My task manager is showing 4 ccsvchst.exe running.

I realise that this is for Norton.

Is this normal function?

Hi -

No. This is not normal.

ccSVCHst.exe is the main framework application for NIS 2009. In other words, it is required.

You should only have two of these processes normally running at one time, from what I understand.

Reboot your system and then check the Task Manager to see if it reappears.

Let us know here.

Hello Sir,

It is not there now. Like you said there are only two ccsvchost.exe now appearing.

Don't know why that happened, do you?

Thank you very much. Tariq :)

Hello Tariq,

Did you install the optional Norton Add-On Pack that contains Parental Controls and Privacy Control?

Cheers,

Mr. Lopez,

No Sir, I have not.

Should I? I have no children.

Re: NIS (2009) has 4 instances of ccSVcHst.exe running.

Tariq, do you use Fast User Switching? There should always be n+1 instances of ccSvcHst running where n is the current number of user sessions. In your example, it sounds like you might have had three different sessions going.

Yes, as Reese wrote, there's one common system service, and one process for each user currently logged on. The purpose of those processes is to provide the user interface to each user when needed (and some user-specific settings, I suppose).

Hello,

No, i don't use fast user switching in XP, as i am the only user as Administrator.

Thank you.

Could you possibly provide us with a snapshot of the task manager window? If you by any chance know how to do it - turn off Tamper Protection before you make a snapshot.

Viewing PIDs and usernames could help us resolve this conundrum.. (on the View tab in Task manager, click select columns, and check User name and PID).

Oh, I see now, it is not happening any more. Well, I guess we'll never know, unless it happens again. :D

Hi -

Tim, what happens with the ccSVCHst.exe process, if you install the Add-On Pack?
