Hi everyone!
I'm having some big trouble with installing Norton Internet Security 2009. Here's the deal - I got a new laptop with NIS 2008 not too long ago, and I bought the 2009 version. So I booted up the CD and chose install, without uninstalling 2008 first, and it seemed as if everything was fine - except for the fact that everything still looked the same and I was apparently running the 2008 version. I did the same on my stationary computer (both using Vista Home Premium, btw).
Every time I would start up my computer, a window would pop up, saying that NIS 2009 is "Initiating", and then the window disappears. On my stationary, the install worked and I am running the 2009 version with the new interface. Of course I wanted that for my laptop too, so I uninstalled Norton Internet Security from it, and then used the Removal Tool from Norton, and finally even manually deleted all remaining registries and files.
But now, when I choose to install NIS 2009, it starts up, it "initiates" and then just disappears again. No trace of it whatsoever. Can't even find it running in task manager or anything. But, when I restart, again it says "initating" - IF I have the CD in the drive. If not, it will ask for the CD. But it doesn't do anything.
Does anyone have any kind of solution? I would greatly appreciate any input.
Thank you in advance.

Hi williu,
Do you have any other security software installed?
If not, then follow the steps you mentioned including running the Norton Removal Tool twice to be sure all traces of the previous Norton installation is removed.
Your CD's may have a slightly older version of NIS. Some issues were addressed in the newer 16.2.0.7 version
I would Download and SAVE the most recent version of NIS 2009 here.
Even though you may be logged on with an administrative account, right click on the NIS09 icon and select "Run as Administrator".
The key supplied with your packaged product will work with the downloaded version.
Let us know how you do.
