NIS 2009 scan freezes

Every morning around 5am, I have Norton set up to scan my computer. All of the sudden, when I log on in the morning, it's still scanning and it reports that it hasn't even scanned anything. Every other time I attempt to scan my computer, it just sits there at "scanning commonly infected areas start-up files..." without scanning everything. I'm not sure what to do. I am running windows vista home premium SP2...if that helps.

Re: NIS 2009 scan freezes

Please download the following scanners and check your system.  Also, is your subscription still valid?

Please download MalwareBytes' AntiMalware from this LINK . Choose the free version as this does not have a real time scanner that will interfere with Norton products. Install the program and update the definitions.

Boot into Safe Mode:
Start your system and tap the F8 key until the Advanced Options Menu appears. Using the arrow keys, select Safe Mode (no networking or command prompt) and press ENTER.

Once Safe Mode is loaded, run a full scan with MBAM. Have the program fix / delete whatever it finds and make a log file. Please attach the log file in a reply post here for review.
Please download GMER from http://www.gmer.net and run the program. Select "Scan" and then "Save" the log. Do nothing else with the GMER program as it can harm your system if used incorrectly. Then attach the log file as a text file to a post here. The Add Attachments link is below the orange Post button. It will be reviewed for possible malware and we will get back to you. Again, thanks for your help in this.

Ummmm......well I couldn't get anti-malware to work at all. I heard about this thing called combofix....so I tried that and it worked. I'm currently scanning my computer :) Just for you guys, I'll upload the log from combofix.

You had 2 (at least) rootkits, MSIVX and  ESQUL   but haven't got all the ESQUL file and the registry entries.
But that is what happens when going your own way.
