I updated NIS 2008 to NIS 2009 a few days ago and although the process was easy and NIS 2009 works well, I am having a problem.
IE 8 seems to crash intermittently. When I check the log, I find
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: iexplore.exe
Application Version: 7.0.6001.18000
Application Timestamp: 47918f11
Fault Module Name: IVPlugin.dll
Fault Module Version: 2009.0.0.104
Fault Module Timestamp: 48b77d6f
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 0002345f
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.6
Locale ID: 1033
Additional Information 1: fd00
Additional Information 2: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160
Additional Information 3: fd00
Additional Information 4: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160
As the Fault Module appears to be a Symantec item, I am wondering if there are soltuions of fixes I can apply.
Thanks

Hi Codydog,
IE8 is still in BETA and has issues. It has not been released as a finished browser. Please check this link which describes just some of the problems.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: Looks like Dieselman743 has a faster keyboard than I do! At least you got two opinions at once.

People seem to be having probelms with N.I.S. 2009 just now, so this may be another bug, if it really is I.E. 07.
Yep I think it is, here's the version number from earlier!
Application Version: 7.0.6001.18000

It is IE7 and this has happened 5 times in the last 2 days. It becomes very disruptve as it crashes all my open windows, usually 4 or 5 tabs, and freezes content in each, eg, a chart or data table.
Can Symantec employees comment on this? Is there a work around? Solution?

Honestly speaking you shouldnt be using IE. Only use Firefox or Opera.
Why is that? I am using I.E. 07 and it is working without Problems; it is made for I.E. 07 and other Versions of I.E.. Users, including myself, are having problems with N.I.S. 2009 which are clearly bugs that were not Resolved/pick-up in the Beta.

Hi Codydog,
Open the NIS 2009 main window. Go to Internet > Settings and scroll down to Smart Firewall. Go to Program Control and click "Configure". You will see a list of programs, scroll to Internet Explorer. Be sure it is set to "Auto" or "Allow".
Are you running any third party toolbars?
Then to take a suggestion from Dieselman743, in IE click Tools > Manage add-ons. Try disabling them one at a time to identify which one may be causing the crash.
Let us know how you do as I am not having any issues with NIS 2009.
EDIT: I just noticed that your fault module is Norton Confidential. Be sure the Phishing Filter in IE is OFF.
