I got this little thing that is frustrating me a little but, but I wouldn't call it a major problem. I have a windows 7 ultimate machine running NIS 2010. Things are going well and NIS seems to be doing it's job.
The thing that is frustrating me is that the default NIS screen keeps opening up and sitting in my task bar/desktop. This seems to be happening fairly regulary, about every 5 to 10 minutes. I can't see anything that seems to be triggering it either, but I'm not always at my desktop when this happens. I'm not sure why it keeps doing this and would prefer if NIS would be content in my system tray only.
If anyone could tell me how to fix my little frustration I would be thrilled :-)

This is a known issue and a hotfix is not available yet. Please see this following topic:

Thanks for the reply, I'll eagerly await the hot fix. I assume it will download automatically with the updates? By the way I did read the linked thread but it got a bit confusing because they were also talking about the icon disappearing issue.
Anyway, thanks again for the replies

When the fix is available, it should be announced in Norton Forums with the information and instructions about downloading and applying the fix. Usually, Fixes/Patches are automatically downloaded, but It's a good idea to check the forum regularly, until the issue is solved.

I had this problem and did a chat with a Norton support tech and he took control of my puter and was able to fix the problem. It work for a while, but yesterday I wanted to check for virus defintions because my wfie said she seen on the news about some new virus/trojan or something. I open it seen it had just check closed it and now it's back to opening for no reason. If I had known I wouldn't have open it! :)

The patch which fixes the issue (patch 17.6) has been deployed; you can read more over here:
To get the patch, please open NIS 2010 and run LiveUpdate manually and see if the patch arrives. You will be asked to restart your machine when you receive the patch.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we are now ready for take-off. We would like to remind you that smoking and flaming are prohibited on all boards of this forum. We wish you an enjoyable flight with Norton Airlines.
