NIS 2010: Logs me out of all logged in websites

Since I upgraded from NIS 2009 to NIS 2010, all my websites forget that I am permanently logged in. For example, iGoogle or myYahoo or Amazon require that I login after I have been away from the computer for a while. I don't know if it is the idle time scan being overzealous or something else.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas how to correct it?

Thanks,

Stan

Re: NIS 2010: Logs me out of all logged in websites

Hi rosest

I did see another thread about this last night. I haven't gotten to that thread yet to see what the progress has been. I was thinking along the lines last night that perhaps the login information might be getting deleted because of the association with adtmt cookie. It might also have something to do with the hijacking or compromising of all those hotmail accounts last week and perhaps they have changed their policies of keeping people logged in. I personally find it safer to have to log in every time and spend a minute doing that rather than risk someone else using my account since it was already logged in as being active.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

Re: NIS 2010: Logs me out of all logged in websites

Hi Stan,

Did you initially log in to these sites using Norton Identity Safe or manually then using the websites' "Remember Me" option?

How often does the loss of log-in occur?

Norton 360 • Norton Internet Security • Norton Zone | XP SP3 • Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64
• PLEASE, BACKUP or EXPORT your Identity Safe Data on a regular basis •

Re: NIS 2010: Logs me out of all logged in websites

I've been using RoboForm for years so I logged in from that. I always check the "remember me" option. Do you think the source of how I l logged in would make a difference; does the scanner check the safe's database before cleaning up? I hadn't thought of that.

My PC is in my home behind a hardware firewall and then behind the NIS firewall so I've been comfortable using the option.

Re: NIS 2010: Logs me out of all logged in websites

No, I don't think the manner in which you logged in would affect this - I was just trying to get a better picture of what's going on.

It sounds like your cookies are being deleted.  Does this happen at every log in or only after a Norton Idle Full System Scan or a Quick Scan.

And, which browser are you using?

Norton 360 • Norton Internet Security • Norton Zone | XP SP3 • Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64

Re: NIS 2010: Logs me out of all logged in websites

It doesn't happen every time, but only after I'm away from the system. I think it always happens over night. I too believe it is deleting cookies but when I look at available NIS settings, I don't see anything to change. I do notice that sometimes there is an entry in the Idle Time Scan history about cleaning up orphaned cookies, but no details on which ones.

I am running IE 8.0.6001. I don't use Firefox very often but I have not seen the problem there. Haven't checked on Chrome.

What do you have Tracking Cookies Scan set to? If not already set then try setting it to ignore and see if that helps.

OK, I've turned that off. I'll come back with some results after it's gone some time.

Hi Stan

That, at least, will stop automatic deletion by NIS of any tracking cookies. You problem, however, could be elsewhere but, hopefully, the setting will resolve the issue.

Re: NIS 2010: Logs me out of all logged in websites

This is a major problem over in the Compuserve Forums where I sysop too. The general view there is that there has been a change in the system software by the organization that hosts it but although that may be true it would not account for it being as widespread as it seems here.

Myself, I've suspected something in NIS 2010 but I can't be sure whether or not the loss of login relates to thedate of installing NIS 2010 and it would not account for the other people on Compuserve forums who don't use NIS and have lost the login memory.

There are some oddities, like from my older XP SP3 desktop using IE7 I have to type in the user name and password each time whereas on my new XP SP3 desktop using IE7 also and both using NIS 2010 the user name is in a droplist on the log in screen and when you select it the password is filled in automatically -- go figure .....

I have not tried the Norton LogIn tool or other similar devices and I've varied between Ignore, Delete and Ask me in the Tracking Cookie settings but in any case Tracking Cookies are not associated with logging in, certainly not in all cases.

The other thing is that I have many sites including here where I do not have to log in; I can't myself think of anywhere but Compuserve where I noticed that it actually changed.
