NIS 2010 / Optimizer

Hello,

The "Optimizer" function starts automatically.  Even, if I choose "Cancel optimize", it starts again 30 seconds later.

What do you think about it ?

Let it finish. However it will take longer being that you're on Windows Vista.

However you may need to Run NIS as administrator. By right clicking the desktop icon and clicking "Run as administrator". In order to stop optimization.

Re: NIS 2010 / Optimizer

Hi puma_one,

I am not familiar with the NIS 2010 interface since I have an earlier NIS version; but if there is an option to disable the optimizer, then you can select it.

There has been some discussion about the optimizer (when NIS 2010 was still in beta), and it seems that it simply calls up the defragmenter in Windows:

Re: NIS 2010 / Optimizer

There is no option to disable it.

There is no option to automatically run it either.

Just a manual run and a manual off.

Hmmmm, well, that does sound a bit inconvenient :-) Thanks for the info, SGFC :-)

Then it's best to let it finish doing what it wants to do, as you said.

Re: NIS 2010 / Optimizer

The option to disable it is under Settings > Miscellaneous Settings > Idle Time Optimizer.  It is one of the Idle Time tasks IF you do not turn it off via the settings menu.  You will have to reboot your system for the setting change to take affect once you change it.  You can run it manually from the Norton Tasks display or from the Performance Chart.
