NIS 2010 and WinPatrol Plus

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying WinPatrol Plus, does anybody know if it will clash with NIS 2010? (It has a 'Real-time Infiltration Detection' system I was wondering if it will have any effect on Norton)

Re: NIS 2010 and WinPatrol Plus

Having read through the support information on WinPatrol Plus, it would appear that you can expect to run into some problems.  I would recommend visiting this part of the website for more information before you spend.  A program that has to have many of its components disabled is not practical.

Re: NIS 2010 and WinPatrol Plus

I've been running WinPatrol Plus with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with no problems at all. I've been running WinPatrol on all my computers since 2003 and have never had a problem with it. It's a must have for me.

Re: NIS 2010 and WinPatrol Plus

I completely agree with delphinium. In general, running two security programs which both have realtime protection is not a good idea at all. The programs can interfere with each other (e.g. threat detection) and cause problems on your computer instead of, as is frequently and erroneously thought, adding to its protection.

If you want an extra program as an additional layer of protection, you can download and install the free version of Malwarebytes from the link below - the free version does not have realtime protection and will not interfere with NIS 2010:

And finally, remember that computer protection is also dependent on your actions and the maintenance of, for instance, safe surfing habits and keeping your operating system, programs etc. up-to-date.

Re: NIS 2010 and WinPatrol Plus

I don't know about the others and what they run but like I said in my previous post I've been using WinPatrol along side NIS 2009 and now NIS 2010 without any problems. I also run ThreatFire along side NIS 2010 with out any problems. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. ThreatFire is now 64 bit compatible. Here's a thread you can read the first post on about WinPatrol. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=255354&highlight=Winpatrol

Re: NIS 2010 and WinPatrol Plus

While you may not have any obvious, visible problems, the advertising hype about both WinPatrol and Threatfire is heuristic detection.  The heuristic detection might not have been such an issue in prior versions, but since Norton's Sonar is so much more effective, there are bound to be silent conflicts.

All heuristic detections should preumably respond to the same perceived threat.  Which program backs away to allow one of the others to quarantine it.  If only one of three recognizes the problem, there is no issue.  That can happen with signature-based antivirus engines, but is much less likely with heuristically-based engines.  That is why the recommendation is to avoid more than one real-time scanner.

 Hi, delphinium, squid13 and Yaso_Kuuhl

Thanks for replying. I won't buy WinPatrol because I don't want anything to clash with NIS 2010 (along with Malwarebytes) as that is what my computers security relies on.

Thanks again for your advice!:smileyhappy:

Re: NIS 2010 and WinPatrol Plus

hi ShinOrochiX

I have used WinPatrol for many years with no problem, it comes highly recommended.

Why not try the free version which is little different to the paid version before making up your mind.

Many people are using the program, why not send are email to Bill (can't spell his surname) he is very helpful and appears very honest with his advice. Replies are always very quick.
