Hello,
I've been using NIS 2010 and suddenly realised it stopped downloading updates (it happen ~ 10 days ago).
I've tried to run LiveUpdate manually but it said: network connection troubles, can't get response from servers (but internet is ok). I've goggled a lot and tried: windows restore points, full system scan, turned off all other network adopters and checked all said here.
Nothing solves this trouble. Then I've downloaded Norton Bootable Recovery Tool and tried to scan system.
None of troubles were found.
I've also tried re-install NIS (even with remove tool) and finally download NIS 2010 (found it available @ Norton account).
It doesn't want to be activated - I see same connection error: "No response received from Symantec server".
BTW, I've got 2 computers in my place (same internet provider). Second one is OK (it has NIS 2010).

Regards,
Michael.

Welcome to Norton Community forums!!!
Are you able to run LiveUpdate and download all the updates in 2011?
Are you behind a proxy?
Do you have any other security products installed (for eg: Windows Live One Care & Microsoft essentials)?
Is there any unwanted entries in your host file?
Please let us know your Operating system.
Please check the Regional and Language Options settings. For detailed steps, refer the following Knowledge Base Article:

Hello aster_x
Welcome to the Norton Community Forum
When you tried to remove NIS 2010, did you first uninstall using the control panel and reboot and then use the Norton Removal Tool 2 times with a reboot after each run before trying to install NIS 2010.?
Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

Live Update returns same internet connection error.
>Are you behind a proxy?
Nop, direct connection.
>Do you have any other security products installed (for eg: Windows Live One Care & Microsoft essentials)?
Nop.
>Is there any unwanted entries in your host file?
Hosts is empty (it was first thing I've checked).
>Please let us know your Operating system.
Sorry, completely forget about it: Windows 7, x64.
>Please check the Regional and Language Options settings
Just tried. All stayed same.

Hello Michael
Is your computer time and date correct and are there any errors connected to time?

As floplot suggested, please check the system date and time. if it is correct, try resetting the Winsock. Here are the steps:
1. Log on as an administrator.
2. Do one of the following:
For Windows Vista: Click the Start button, and then click All Programs > Accessories > Right click on Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
For Windows XP: Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
3. In the Command prompt, type the following text, and press Enter:
netsh winsock reset
4. When you see the message "Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog..." restart the computer.
5. Activate the Norton product.
Do you have a Linksys router?

I tried it before (when i had NIS 2010) and it didn't helped, but it finally worked with 2011. It's been activated and updated!
Thanks!!!
