NIS 2010 keeps deleting a file without the option to exclude it.

I have a program that I use to make a list of my Outlook 2007 passwords. It is from Nirsoft.net and it NOT infected in any way. NIS 2010 considers it a hacking tool. The program is called Mail PassView (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/mailpv.html). Everytime I try to ruin it, NIS deletes it and doesn't give me the option to exclude it. How do I go about excluding this file when it is run, as I know it is safe?

Re: NIS 2010 keeps deleting a file without the option to exclude it.

go to settings in norton panel, in comp settings go to scan exclusion

click configure button against it.

Add the trusted program in both auto protect exclusion and scan exclusion.

This will solve ur problem.

The program "Mail PassView"  without being placed in the 2 exclusion lists, should be detected due to the nature of what the program does, in the fact it reveils passwords.

I agree with Quads.

Its detected under category hacking tools and all.

That is what the program is designed to do, to give you a list of your email passwords so you can save them. It is a perfectly legit program.

But it is suppose to be detected and is, as it is a hacking tool,

I remember all my passwords, so if someone is using a program like that on my Machine I want it detected and removed.

Re: NIS 2010 keeps deleting a file without the option to exclude it.

The problem is that the exe file is inside a zip file. When I open the zip and run the file, that is when it gets deleted. If I have the file itself in that directory, and exclude that, then it runs fine. I have excluded the Nirsoft directory from both places and it still deletes the file when I run ir from inside the zip. I thought if I excluded the directory, then it would work fine. I think the problem is that it copies the file to a temp directory and runs it from there. That is where NIS is deleting it. Shouldn't it be looking at the file itself? When I ran Productkey like that, NIS allowed me to add that exclusion, because it was a low value on the threat list. Why can't I add the mailpv.exe the same way?

I use it to print the list when I need it. Whether or not it "should" be deleted, that should still be my choice, not NIS's.

No

Your choice is to get Norton to exclude the file in the Auto-Protect and scans lists. Simple

Re: NIS 2010 keeps deleting a file without the option to exclude it.

And it won't let me exclude it like it did the Productkey file. I can run the Productkey from inside the zip and it gave me an option to add it to the exclude lists. When I ran Mail PassView from inside the zip, it did not give me the same option to add it. That is what I am saying. There needs to be an option to add it for any file, not just the ones that NIS picks and chooses.
