NIS 2010 on win7 - uistb "unspec error"

I saw another posting on this.

I have just purchased a new HP mini-laptop which has a trial of NIS 2010 which I got working, and did a couple of LiveUpdates.

Now I notice that Norton isn't working, and I too get an 'unspecified error"    \17.7.0.12\uistub.exe

No such file exists in that file.

I read Phil_D's earlier reply, but where will I find the "Norton Activation Key"?

I never saw such a number when registering the 60-day trial version.

Will it be the same as my computer's serial number, I wonder?

I did write down my computer's serial number, and copied the activation key of another trial software which came pre-loaded.

I've already got some viruses on my files, so need to get Norton working again.

So, if I uninstall and re-install, what "activation number" shall I use, i.e. where to find it?

Please post a screenshot of the error message you get. As you are using a preinstalled Norton product that came with your HP mini-laptop, you may need to check the recovery CD that you get along with the laptop for the installation file. Otherwise, contact Symantec Customer Service:

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/contact/contact.jsp?pvid=cs

They will be able to help you with installing the 60 days trial.

HI flecky21

Trying to install on an already infected machine is frequently problematic. Try running a scan with Malwarebytes to see if you can clear the infections up before trying to install Norton. Go to www.malwarebytes.com download the free version, update it and run a full scan.

You could also try a scan with the free version of Superantispyware from www.superantispyware.com
