I updated from NIS 2009 to NIS 2010 a few days ago.Since I did this,my start up time has slowed down and my laptop seems a bit slower.I have Vista Home Premium.Can anyone help me to solve this?

It is normal that NIS 2010 takes longer than NIS 2009 to start up. Here's another thread on this occurrence, I'm sure you'll find it helpful:

Thank you for your help.It is not NIS 2010 that is taking longer,it is the whole thing.What I mean is that from switching on until welcome centre appears used to take from 55-60 seconds.Now it takes about 80 seconds for the welcome centre screen to appear.

Thanks for the very speedy reply.Yes,I did install on top of.It updated rather than uninstall NIS 2009 first.

That may be one reason for the slowdown; there is another school of thought which recommends uninstalling the previous version via removal tool (if there are no other Norton products on the machine), thus ensuring a clean install for the next version.

Posting instructions for removal tool method.

Note: the removal tool will wipe out your settings and any other Norton products installed on your computer. It will not touch your product key, however.

-download the removal tool from here and save it to your desktop:

-download the full NIS 2010 installation package from here and save it to your desktop:

http://www.norton.com/nis10

-make sure you have got your product key handy (you can get it from your Norton account).

-deactivate any other security software you may have (no need to deactivate NIS 2010)

-if you wish, you can create a system restore point

-disconnect physically from the internet (remove the internet cable) that way your computer is not exposed.

-if you're in Vista: right-click on the removal tool icon, run as administrator; run the removal tool 2-3 times, rebooting each time after every run

-after running the removal tool: if in Vista: right-click NIS 2010 icon, run as administrator, let it install itself. When it wants to connect with the web, connect again to the internet. Run LiveUpdate until there are no more updates.

Don't bother fiddling with the Norton Removal program, NIS 2010 simply slows down start up more than NIS 2009.  Even CNet, which game NIS 2010 an editor's choice award, mentioned that it slows down the boot time by an additional 35% (compared with 25% for NIS 2009).  Hopefully this can be sped up in subsequent updates.
