Re: NIS 2010 suggestions

There needs to be better Anti-Spam.

Miss the "Norton [Status]" on the task Bar; bring it back!

Editing a tripod site from firefox is a pain-and-a-half.  Firefox can't display in normal mode in that setting, so everything is HTML, whether you want it to be or not.

I think what Red meant to say is that some sites are made for IE only.  That is that they won't work on other browsers

Those sites are poorly created, even MS works very well with FF

Re: NIS 2010 suggestions

You could put all Background Tasks in a seprate sub-heading/section in the N.I.S. 2010 Options, along with Automatic Norton LiveUpdate.  This means Users could have Pulse Updates on, but have everything else Off - and, if Off, should not Run in any way, shape or form.

Also think S.V.D.s should back-pile so Users get the Virus Modifications over the last two/ten hours, and the Norton 2010 Virus Definitions could be used to Modify those Internet Threats which require more time to analyse them.

Re: NIS 2010 suggestions

Greetings to all:

A little time has passed since I have posted a comment or comments relating to what should be incorporated or reincorporated into NIS 2010.

Since I have been a dedicated Symantec supporter for at least six years, I can say & have previously stated that I was very disappointed with NIS 2008 & quite surprised with NIS 2009 from a stand point of what wasn't incorporated.

Based on my previous discussions, I reverted back to using NIS 2007 due to the ad-blocking & pop-up blocking components that is included in the add-on pack.  The complete functionality of those two components are outstanding.  It is nice to know that I can add additonal url's within the ad-blocking component itself & within those url's including url's for very ad's that I want to block.  As a result, when I go to MSN, Yahoo or any of my web based mail accounts such as Hotmail or Yahoo mail, I don't see any advertising at all, period.  My browsing experiences are clean.

There was an interesting post from someone on this site who stated it is up to the browser developer to block ads & not the security software developer.  I am, along with other security experts, of the opinion that it needs to be a combination of both.  There is a school of thought that advertising &/or pop-ups can be considered security risks.  I have the piece of mind know that I have those items blocked on various sites & If I choose to, can "disable" the ad-blocking / pop-up blocking functionality or manually configure the url within the component if choosing so.

Regarding browsers vis-a-vis security, I choose to use SeaMonkey 1.1.12  as my primary browser with most, if not all available add-ons including Adblock Plus.  My other browsers include FireFox, Netscape 7.2 & IE7.  I mentioned IE7 last because when I was using NIS 2008, I had nothing put advertising everywhere.  It was just an annoyance.  It made the surfing experience miserable.  I continued to open priority case numbers with Symantec as they were promising that an add-on pack was going to be released that included pop-up blocking & ad-blocking only to be told at the very end, "sorry but it's not happening."  I was also told by Symantec many times that NIS 2009 was going to incorporate those items only to be told again, "you were misinformed & we apologize for any confusion."  As a result, I re-installed NIS2007, extended my subscription & the rest is history.

I truly hope that Symantec will reconsider & incorporate those items in NIS2010.  In addition, I would like to see anti-phishing toolbars for non IE & FireFox browsers such as SeaMonkey.  I personally think that adding the preceding will place Symantec another step ahead of it's closest competitors including McAfee & Kapersky.  I don't see why Symantec can't re-incorporate those items.  Since Symantec is stating that NIS2009 is built from scratch, can't they develop NIS2010 from scratch with those components?

Lastly, I hope I haven't left anything out from this post.

Comments & suggestions, including those from Symantec, are welcomed & encouraged.

Sincerely,

Shadow1

That is what I find puzzling: Why could symantec not have done this, even though they built N.I.S. 2009 "from scratch"?

I think symantec should re-install these Comonents in to their N.I.S. 2010, since they have had a full year to re-build their Security Product.

Re: NIS 2010 suggestions

I would like to see a customisable renewal 'nag screen'.

From day 30 to expiry I get continual popups reminding me to 'renew' or 'remind me later'.

For the last 5 years I have the next product version, in stock, just waiting for day zero. I would therefore only like to be reminded from say day 3 to zero, or whatever I set.

Lets be careful out there !

"...day 3..."  That is a bit short-notice.  The reason why it is from one month down is so that it gives the Users time to Upgrade and also, a month can go very fast if you are busy working hard, for example; what would happen if they set it to "day 3" and then they ran out of Subscritpion?  They would come to symantec to complain that they were not given enough notice.  That is my suggestion anyway.   :)
