The pc was off for about 10 days, now it wont updad . I uninstalled NIS ....installed again....no luck. I ran the Norton removal tool......installed NIS 2010 again and no luck. What else can I try?

XP SP3, I used the NIS Downloader to download the product.

Do you have any other security software on your system?
When you say it doesn't want to update, do you mean that it gives you an error message? if so, what is it? and otherwise, does it just say "updating" and never get anywhere?

it just says Failed to update
NIS is the only security product I am using other than on demand SAS

Is your subscription for NIS 2010 still active.? Is the computer time and date correct and are there any errors being reported with time and date? Please try synchronizing your computer with the Symantec servers by clicking on Help & Support and subscription status. Have you tried a fresh download of the program and then plug in your key.?

Please remember to run live update after install to make sure all updates are received and then please reboot.

I finally figured out what the problem was. It was Puresight parental controls that was keeping NIS from updating. I removed that and all is ok now. Thanks for the help.
