Three days ago I got the revised 18.5 patch and everything was working correctly until this morning when I did a System Restore. Before I did the restore I disabled Insite Protection, ran system restore which was sat and reenabled Norton Insight Protection. Rebooted and opened up NIS and noticed that the Intrusion Prevention Tab was Off. A One Click Support box opened up and displayed the error>3040, 20011. Rebooted and the same error appeared. The solution provided was to uninstall and reinstall NIS which I did by removing NIS 2011 from the Add/Remove, running the NRT twice and reinstalling 2011.
NIS 2011 is back up and running ver 18.1. Guess I will have to wait for the 18.5 patch again. Don't understand why I got that 3043 error after doing a System Restore because I have used the restore feature previously with no problems.

For System Restore if you must use it. Disable Norton Product Tamper Protection. Remember to Enable after.
Miscellaneous Settings > Product Security
What prompted you to do a System Restore.
Was your error similiar to
Error: "Intrusion Prevention failed to load" (3043,1)
System Restore can upset the apple cart. Sometimes create more problems. More than it may fix.

Hi Aviator327,
System Restore reverts the registry and some programs back to an earlier state. However, not everything gets rolled back and this can create problems for security software which updates itself almost continually. It is not unusual for a restore to leave Norton with missing pieces, and we have been seeing a lot more instances lately where performing a system restore almost automatically necessitates reinstalling Norton.

Not the error you mentioned. I installed a XP Theme (Vista style) last night which gave me a black taskbar. Prior to installing I created a Restore Point. This morning I took the Theme off my PC using system restore. That's when the problem started.

OK...guess the Topic > NIS 2011 Error 3043,1 < pointed me in the wrong direction.
Thanks for info what prompted System Restore. I was concerned you had deeper issues.
If you must use System Restore > Disable Norton Product Tamper Protection
But, please review System Restore info here and here. Also this Topic
Thank you
