As long as I know that setting deals with your computer's interaction with other computers. Setting to restricted will prevent other computers to access your computer should your network be breached. Plus, if you don't want pc's from seeing each other, you can turn on wireless isolation in your router settings.
Yes this is all true but I I curious why this question is being asked. If there is already a trust level configured for the LAN connection I don't think this question should be getting asked on startup.
I know I have never been asked that on any of the 3 computers in my home network.
Much of it boils down to my "curiousity" and to make sure that a valid trust level is already configured for the LAN interface.
Best wishes.

I'm with AllenM - I don't know where the trust level question at startup is coming from, either. I've never seen it. GORPY1, could you get a screenshot of this?

From my experience, when I reset firewall in XP, Norton brought up an option to choose trust level. Perhaps Norton thought you have connected to a new network and ask which settings do you want to set.
Norton should be determining the network trust level automatically, based on the computer settings that it finds. It almost sounds like Trust Control is popping up all by itself, which I have never seen. It does make you wonder what network Norton is asking about, though.

Definitely you would want to choose the Trust option. I am not sure why you are being asked that quite honestly. I have never seen that question on my computer.
From the main NIS window click on Network Security Map and then check the trust setting for the Local Area Connection. What is it set to? See image below for illustration.
Best wishes.

If there is no other computer and you are not planning for any networks, I would set it to restricted to be on the safe side.
Thanhks Tywin7....... Are you sure that wouldn't block anything though it looks like all it (NIS 2011) does is port block alot,,,,,,,,.Gorpy1

Hi Gorpy1,
I would recommend setting the LAN connection to Shared Trust via Network Security Map. What level does it show currently?
Have a great night's sleep, almost my bed time too! ![]()
Best wishes.
