Hello all,
I encountered an error with NIS 2011 this morning (8504,104). Also Symantec framework encountered a problem and stopped working. I went to support and followed the troubleshooting procedures/corrective actions. After repairing, I decided to perfom the upgrade to NIS 2012. I wasn't comfortable installing NIS 2012 over NIS 2011 so I ran the Norton remove and reinstall tool. I recieved a message stating I had to uninstall Norton Utilities 14.5 first, which I did with no issues. Ran the NRnR tool again, no problems, NIS 2011 removed and NIS 2012 installed. After re boot, now my computer makes a series of 3 beeps followed by a pause and then repeats the 3 beeps/pause cycle a couple more times. Very frustrating. I am running NIS 2012, Windows 7 64 bit home premium SP1 and Norton Utilities 14.5. No other security software and no other utilities. I had to do a destructive restore last week after attempting to upgrade from NIS 2011 to NIS 2012 for the same exact reason and I am hoping to not have to do it again. The beeping noise never occurred with NIS 2011. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Beeps when you boot the computer are unrelated to Windows software. They are codes for hardware errors.

The catch is that the beeps/tones did not occur until after removing NIS 2011 and installing NIS 2012. They never happened while running NIS 2011.

Ok, I think the problem is solved. My SM/SD cards and compact flash drivers got messed up/corrupted. I uninstalled them from device manager, rebooted and problem solved. The beeps/tones issue has occured twice now, both times after I uninstalled NIS 2011 and Installed NIS 2012. The big question is, why did it occur? Also, why Did I get the error 8504, 104 and the Symaniec framework error this morning with NIS 2011?

And a big thank you to Bombastus for pointing me in the right direction.
