NIS 2012 (19.5) Live Update reporting incorrect.

[ Edited ]

Hi all:

I have been noticing a few problems with Live Update today and I wanted to show you something...

1) Note that is says Completed. I totally disagree.

2) Note that is says "Not all of the updates were successful." Actually, none were successful. Applied updates = 0

I feel that there should be better reporting here and a constant visual indication of Live Update status resident on the main GUI.

For example, Green = All Updates Applied, Red = Error in Live Update. Both should have direct links to Security History - Live Update and transmit realtime feedback to Symantec so they can know what is transpiring, perhaps via NCW.

It's just how I feel, nothing earth shattering. :smileyindifferent:

Yo _Blast,

I have checked and have seen the same in my history.  So being curious if this was recent, I went back as far as I could in my LU History and found one from Sept of 2011 the same way.  So it is not anything new.   I guess the thoughts are - did it complete (vs Cancelled - I have seen this also in LU History) - well YES, but that apparently does not mean it Completed SUCCESSFULLY!  :smileywink:

I always thought that was the statis of the "Live Update Session" and not the updates that may have been in that session.

That orange mark indicates a problem in that session.

Re: NIS 2012 (19.5) Live Update reporting incorrect.

Hello

The live update problem is known to Symantec and has been much better recently. If there is a problem with not all the updates being installed, they will get installed in the near future most of the time. I agree with Dave. The live update session was completed vs not being interrupted with a resulting cancel.

The severity of the problem would be shown with a yellow or orange dot. If the problem is caused by a problem with your NIS, then it would be reported in Norton Error Reporting.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

The results from a 'Canceled' LiveUpdate Session probably best illustrates how Status is linked to the update process itself:
