With NIS installed or uninstalled ?

It's not actually a crash it just will not let me on the internet after installing NIS 2012. When it gets to the Installation Complete screen NIS attempts to access the internet to install its updates but the internet is blocked from access. The only way to get the internet access is to either uninstall NIS or boot in safe mode with networking.
Networking reports it is connected but internet explorer says Cannot display the web page. If I click on diagnose connection problems it says Windows found a problem that cannot be repaired automatically contact your ISP or Network administrator
If I try to open Norton Security first thing it does is attempt to access the internet to get its updates and since the internet is blocked after a long wait I get a Symantic Error Reporting notice and the a Checking for a fix for this error checking live update error 8504,100 and a button to Open Support Web Site which none of it works because the internet is being blocked.
No need to refer me to the error 8504,100 or 8506,422 or the 8502,422 posts on this forum I have tried all of thise solutions and they do not work because they all rewuire internet access to do the updates.
If I uninstall NIS the internet works.
I ran the sfc /scannow and it did find and fixed several corrupted files and I rebooted.
After reboot I noticed several Norton folders were back in the tree which were not there before.
I tried to run a windows uninstall at that point but Norton was not included in the installed apps lists so I ran the Norton remove tool which removed the folders.
I rebooted and tried a new install of NIS
I downloaded the free trial version to see if that would work.
At the end of the download I noticed a Security Scan poped up and then dissappeared and wondered where that came from since NIS was removed from my machine.
Anyway the end result was the same No Internet Access with NIS installed

Hi
With NIS installed please turn of the Firewall and try to access the Internet. If it works then install NIS and add an exception for the Default Gateway IP in the NIS firewall to alow the to and fro communication.
Finding default gateway:
Without NIS installed when you're able to access Internet, goto the command prompt->type ipconfig->make a note of the default gateway IP address->open NIS->settings->Network->Firewall->Advanced Settings Configure->General Settings Configure ->Add ->Allow->to and from->Only Computers and sites listed below->The protocol you want to allow: All -> Finish the Wizard.
And check the internet.

I have turned off the firewall and it still will not allow access to the internet.
The NIS settings can not be accessed

Are you currently running any other security product on your PC, such as Microsoft Security Essentials (which is known to cause connectivity issues when installed with Norton)?

Please provide the exact error that you receive here. Also provide the following info:
- your ISP
- Wireless or ethernet LAN cable
- Make/model of modem or router you use
- status of firewall in router
Did you try disabling the Intrusion Prevention component from NIS 2012?

Please provide the exact error that you receive here
"Window encountered an error that can not be repaired automatically Please contact your internet service provider or network administrator."
- your ISP : Comcast high speed cable
- Wireless or ethernet LAN cable : Both
- Make/model of modem or router you use : Linksys
- status of firewall in router: Disabled
I know what your thinking but all of my PC's connected to my home network are running ok.
I can unplug the eithernet cable from the PC have the problem and connect it to another and it works.
Networking and sharing shows it is connected and the network is working.
If I click diagnose the connection it says and error was encountered that can not be repaired.
A packet was sent to microsoft.com but no response was received.
Sounds to me like NIS is blocking a listening port.
ipconfig reports the same with or without NIS installed.

No if NIS will not let me in the settings screen.
If I right click the icon in the tray it pops up a tiny grey window with lines on it and nothing is clickable.
When I right click on the desktop icon it give me the option of Scan Now or Norton File Insight
If I left click on either one of then it goes to the error reporting screen and locks up.

When you say that NIS 2012 won't let you into the Settings screen, is it because the Settings options is greyed out or is it because you can't open the main NIS 2012 user interface?
Please run Norton AutoFix to see if it can repair the installation:
If Norton AutoFix makes any repairs or identifies any issues that it can't fix, then please copy and paste the results here.
