NIS 2012 SONAR, Firewall and Browser Protection were mysteriously disabled

While trying to figure out what's happening to tracking cookies with the new NIS 2012 (NIS 2011 always showed them when scanned), I notice on the advanced home page that SONAR Protection, Smart Firewall, Intrusion Prevention and Browser Protection on/off sliders were lightened (which I'm assuming means they were diabled). They were in the "on" position but couldn't be moved.

Nothing I did made a difference so I closed everything down and restarted the computer (Windows XP) and everything was back to normal. But I'm wondering, A) what happened? and B) was my computer unprotected during that time?

I was going to download the maual to see if that had any info, but that failed on numerous attempts. NIS 2011 was so smooth and problem-free, but I'm starting to wonder if 2012 is reverting to the Norton product of a couple years ago that made me leave the brand. This isn't a good start.

HI malpaso,

The issue of the grayed-out sliders has been reported here previously.  Not sure why it happens, but as you discovered, a restart fixes the problem.

Re: NIS 2012 SONAR, Firewall and Browser Protection were mysteriously disabled

I noticed this once just after installing NIS 2012 as well, and tested the protection while the boxes were greyed out, and everything from the firewall to autoprotect to file insight worked as it should, so it seems more like a cosmetic error than a real malfunction.

Thanks for the reassurance. I was hoping it was just a cosmetic glitched.

With that solved, do you guys have any thoughts on my tracking cookie issue?
