NIS 2012 and Error 3048,3

Hi, everyone! I'm currently running NIS 2012 on a Windows Vista machine. My computer decided that today, of all days, LOL, that it was time to upgrade to IE 9. I was running IE 8 before. After I realized my computer installed this upgrade automatically, I restarted it and ran some Norton scans to make sure everything was secure. I first ran a Quick Scan and received this error: 3048, 3. I ran Quick Scan again with no problems, and then proceeded to run a Full System Scan with no problems. My question is: has anyone else encountered this error before? What does it mean and do I need to reinstall NIS 2012? Or is this an IE issue? I searched the forum, but all posts related to this were from last year. Any insight would be wonderful! Thanks, Gina

Re: NIS 2012 and Error 3048,3

Hi Gina,

I do not think it is an IE9 problem.

I would suggest you look at this link:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=asia+pacific&doc...=

If you do that and have no sucess, please look at the "What if this didn't work"  towards the bottom of the page and then run the Norton remove and reinstall tool.

Please post back with results.

Re: NIS 2012 and Error 3048,3

Hi, yank. Thanks for your response--apologies for my slow reply! I did restart the computer (by turning it on later that day) and didn't seem to have any more issues. But then on 2/28, I received the same error while surfing the web.

Would you recommend that I reinstall Norton? The strange thing about this is that everything else seems to be working okay, scans are running fine and etc., but I want to be protected, too! I don't want a product that's only working 50% of the time. Your thoughts? Thanks, Gina

hi gina,

IMHO, it would not hurt anything to run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool. You need to do what you feel best for your situation.

 Instructions here:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=v60392881_EndUserProfile...=

Please carefully read the Before You Begin prior to running the Tool.

Let us now how things works out.

[ Edited ]
I know I originally posted this thread a few weeks ago, but now I'm receiving the same exact error on two other computers! The original machine with the issue I ultimately uninstalled and reinstalled the product, but now I just got it on two other desktops, one running NIS 2012, the other running NIS 2011. Anyone else getting this error today? I feel like it just can't be me! EDIT: I checked the desktop where I just got the 3048,3 error. In the error log, it said Liveupdate ran automatically around the same time. It did an update for "Activity Map Data." Just thought I'd add that! :)

Re: NIS 2012 and Error 3048,3

Hi

Please remove the temporary files and run a checkdisk scan Then Download the Intelligent updater from here and restart then run the Live Update and check. And then let us know how it went.

Checkdisk: start --> type cmd --> right click on cmd --> Run as Administrator --> type chkdsk /r /f  hit enter --> type y --> Restart the Computer and let the check disk run.

Re: NIS 2012 and Error 3048,3

Hi, Subash_Prabu, thanks so much for a reply! I'm sorry to say that I'm not skilled or confident enough in my computer skills to attempt your suggestion. :( When I first got the error, I did restart my computer, as the Norton Support Site suggested. I ran Liveupdate through Norton once the computer was back up and running, and everything went through fine. I even ran a Quick Scan again, just to see if I could produce the error again, but nothing yet. If there's something else a little less invasive you could suggest, I'd appreciate it! Thanks again, Gina

Re: NIS 2012 and Error 3048,3

Hi Gina

The Steps i had mentioned above will be fruitful even if you don't have a problem. Because the Check Disk can find and fix the Bad clusters/Corrupted Sectors in the Hard Drive. Which can also help you improve the performance of the PC.
