NIS 2012 and Google Chrome

Dear,

For years, I am very satisfied with Norton NIS.

Since 03 December I have installed NIS 2012 on my PC (OS : XP Pro).

NIS 2012 is now securing Google Chrome (Dutch version).

I always watch the news on the Belgian national newsmaker www (dot) deredactie (dot) be.

Since NIS 2012, the videozone doesn't work.  I turned off NIS 2012 and the videozone works again.

On Internet Explorer and NIS 2012 'ON', the videozone is working (slow, but-) perfectly.

Could someone help me to set NIS 2012 and switch it on Google Chrome 'ON' again.  I do not find how to switch on NIS 2012 on Google Chrome.

Sincerely,  Pier.

Re: NIS 2012 and Google Chrome

Hi,

Sorry for the issue you are facing.

Did you Disable Norton ToolBar from Google Chrome or you uninstalled it?

Please open Chrome->Click on "Settings" link -> Click "Tools"->Click "Extensions" and check whether Norton ToolBar is displayed under it. If its shown disabled then please "Enable" it.

Can you please mention the URL of the Website on which you are facing this issue with Chrome.

What do you mean by TURNING ON NIS, did you mean enabling/disabling Norton ToolBar or did you turn off Settings such as

"Identity Safe/Safe Surfing" from the product UI.

Hi Pier:

Welcome to the Norton forum.

I have NIS 2011 and I'm able to watch the video on the VideoZine at www.deredactie.be (sample video here) with no problem using my Firefox browser.

This video player plays Flash .FLV videos, so part of the problem could reside with your Adobe Flash installation for Chrome (note that there are separate Flash Players for IE and non-IE browsers).  Could you please browse to the Adobe Flash installation tester here from your Chrome browser and confirm that you have the latest Adobe Flash v. 11.1.102.55 installed for non-IE browsers and that it's working normally.  If there's something wrong with your Flash installation see my instructions here for performing a clean re-install of Adobe Flash.

If your current Flash installation is working correctly in Chrome please see pjaj's thread here about similar problems with the British Channel4 News video player in the the thread Latest Flash Player Does Not Work in Some Applications. pjaj's problem was related to an ad blocker program that prevented him from running video on the Channel4 website.

I'm not sure why turning off NIS 2012 would allow you to view videos on the deredactie.be site unless the NIS Smart Firewall is blocking the IP address for this site.  Have you tried resetting your NIS firewall (Settings | Network Settings | Smart Firewall | Advanced Settings | Configure | Firewall Reset | Reset) to set it back to your factory defaults?

I also noticed that deredactie.be left a cookie on my computer after I visited the site, so it's always possible that NIS scans are removing a cookie required to run the videos.

Re: NIS 2012 and Google Chrome

Hi Imacri,

Thanks for your reply.

I just installed Firefox on my pc and the videozone on www.deredactie.be is working perfectly.

It just doesn't resolve the problem with Google Chrome and NIS2012.

I like Google Chrome for its speed on Internet.

Hi Pier:

If you mean that your Norton Toolbar has disappeared in Chrome and vivesku's suggestion doesn't work, you may find some helpful suggestions in KBPrez's post here titled How to Add Norton Toolbar to Google Chrome in NIS 2012.  KBPrez found that a complete re-install of Chrome was necessary to get the toolbar back.  A re-install might not be a bad idea since you're also having problems running Flash videos in your Chrome browser.

Just make sure you install the 32-bit version of Chrome.  NIS doesn't support 64-bit browsers.

Re: NIS 2012 and Google Chrome

Hi,

Sorry, replying on your posts was not possible until now.

Re-installed my OS : XP Pro SP2, it didn't work.  Updating SP3 now.

My PC : Q-Force IntelCore 2cpu 3600 @ 1.86GHz, 1 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS.

A first attempt to reply on a Win7-PC didn't do it also.

Re: NIS 2012 and Google Chrome

Hi Viveksu,

One of the URL's you asked for is : http://www.deredactie.be/cm/vrtnieuws/mediatheek/ookdatnog/1.1170074 Norton NIS disabled.

With Norton NIS 2012 enabled : http://www.deredactie.be/cm/vrtnieuws/mediatheek/ookdatnog/1.1170074 , the same URL, the videozone doesn't work.

With Norton NIS 2012 enabled, I do not get any image, what URL I may try on www.deredactie.be .

P.S. : I have many problems with the CAPTCHA-verifications to post my messages.

Re: NIS 2012 and Google Chrome

Hi Imacri,

My OS is XP Pro - 32 bits, and the Norton toolbar is present on Chrome.

I just can't answer "Viveksu" because of non-stop problems with the Captcha-verifications.

I will check the 32-bit version of my Chrome version.

Still have a problem with : reCAPTCHA

Re: NIS 2012 and Google Chrome

HI Pier:

The prompt to enter a captcha is for new users only and will disappear once you've made a few more posts in the forum.  If you want to practice using any of the features available on the forum (e.g., posting a screenshot or attaching a text file) there is a thread here called The Official Test Post (Sandbox) Thread where you can post anything you want if you want to test the behavior of your captchas using your IE or Firefox browser.  This could be caused by a problem with Java or an out-of-date extension in your Chrome browser.

If you only have 1 GB of RAM, you might want to check your other hardware specifications to ensure you meet the minimum requirements to run NIS 2012 (posted here - click the System Requirements tab).
