NIS 2012 appears to have stopped (at least it won't open)

Yesterday I went to log into Identity Safe and a yellow triangle showed and said the product was unavailable and the Safe Web option had a grey ? next to it.  I tried to log into Norton and nothing happened.  I assumed my PC had a funny moment and I didn't have time to sort out so I left it thinking next time it boots up all would be OK.  Wrong!

Exactly the same thing today.  I click on the Norton desktop logo, I get an egg timer for about a second and then nothing!  This time however I got an error message I never got yesterday that said a fix had been applied and to restart the PC (the error message was 11006;1).  After restarting it had no change and another red error box came up, this time with an error message of 8504;101.  Agains a requested restart did nothing.

What should I do?

last week i got the same error codes and after turning off computer, waiting a few minutes, rebooting everything seems to work fine.  look at the thread service framework has stopped working.

Thread service framework?  What would this be as Norton doesn't let me in to look for anything.

The PC was turned off overnight and the issue hasn't rectified so I am not sure that will work.

garawa,       look at the post by gorpy1(thread) titled   symantec framework crashes error 8504,5.    this was to let you know others are getting these errors.   hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Well I hope so as this is now day three with Norton not working.  I have no idea as to whether I am being protected whilst using the internet or not as I have zero functionality, most annoying being unable to filter fake or dangerous websites and having to try to remember every blooming user ID and password every time I visit a website!

Topo, I am not sure you have read my thread correctly.  I have just looked at the thread you mention and all users with that issue have simply restarted and all is well again.  That error message for me is one part of three, the others being another error message and the fact NIS will just not start at all!  I can reboot to my hearts content but it is not bringing back ANY functionality of Norton at all!

garawa,     your rebooting not fixing your problem worries me.  i stated this concern about loss of functionality in another post last week but it was merged with another thread(nis2012 crashing with changes in firewall).   i have been a norton user over 7 years but i always have norton removal tool installed on my desktop.   i think you should uninstall/reinstall.

Hi Garawa,

Here is the Norton suggested method of repairing the 8504,101 error.

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+kingdom&d...

Since you have tried step 1 numerous times I would suggest you try Step 2 and let us know how you make out.
