Initial post - above- cut off and any attempt to edit still cuts off after two words. Trying to repost anew...
Looks like I've got two options.
1. Start saving my pennies for the fare to a planet where they do things the way I'd like.
2. Try very hard to avoid malware while I wait for GPT support in NIS 201n.
Currently thinking option 2 is the most practicable. ![]()

Yup. Transport availability on Option 1 tends to be a little spotty as well. ![]()

What happens when you right click on a folder and select scan?
Does it do one file or all of them.
Try it also on you D drive since it's only 2TB

HI Dave
Hmmm... Why didn't I think of that? It seems to do some good.
Trying to present results in a comprehensible manner I produced this table: (Note: format adjusted by the forum SW due to removing 'invalid HTML' from the table created in Word)
| C: – 120GB Single SSD MBR - NTFS | D: – 1.9TB | E: – 3.54TB |
|
|
|
|
NIS2012 Drive Scan | Scans many items. | Total Items Scanned: 1 Assumed to be only ‘Protective MBR’ in GPT. | Total Items Scanned: 1 Assumed to be only ‘Protective MBR’ in GPT. |
Select Folder | Total Items Scanned: Number of files in folder and subfolders (or more). Assumed OK. | Total Items Scanned: 0 | Total Items Scanned: 0 |
Select Single File ‘Insight Network Scan’ | Total Items Scanned: 1 Assumed OK. | Total Items Scanned: 1 Assumed OK. | Total Items Scanned: 1 Assumed OK. |
Select Multiple Files ‘Scan Now’ | Total Items Scanned: No. of files selected (or more). Assumed OK. | Total Items Scanned: No. of files selected (or more). Assumed OK. | Total Items Scanned: No. of files selected (or more). Assumed OK. |
It looks like I can scan one or more files on the GPT file system if I select them but selecting a folder (and implicitly subfolders) does no useful scan.
NIS 2012 already seems to do the expected job scanning my 'hidden' partition and the C drive containing the OS and most apps. My main concern is mail attachments that I store on the RAID/GPT and it looks like I can scan them 'manually'.
I've tried some 'Custom Scans' and the results seem to be the same as manually selecting folders or files so it's just as easy for me to browse to a folder I want to check, 'Select all' then 'Scan Now'.
I'm new to these forums so don't know if that get you a 'fixed' credit. It's not ideal but it's certainly a step in the right direction. Good input thanks!

I have two GPT disks in my workstation, 5TB on SATA RAID5, and 10TB on iSCSI.
NIS 2012 scans both drives without any problems, e.g. just ran a custom disk scan on the 5TB drive, 1.3M items scanned and counting.
I've asked that somebody from our team look at this thread, as I suspect it may have somethig to do with your specific system configuration.

Hi PieterV:

If this is the case why is GPT Support not mentioned in the marketing or technical materials for NIS?
Seems like a big selling point to me. Was it available in 2011?
I think everybody in this thread (including myself) might be a bit embarrassed, after all this time without an official reply.
Kindly elaborate on GPT support in NIS for us. Does it also extend to NAV 2012 and 360 v.5?
Thanks and regards,

Hi Hallmark:
I wonder what it could be. The way that you describe your RAID setup appears to be correct.
Glad that we will have some Symantec support on this.
Cheers!

I would suspect a partition problem or something with the RAID chipset or driver.
Thank you very much Pieter for your help.
