NIS 2012 gone Haywire

I have been battling NIS 2012 for 2 days now. All 3 of my pc’s came up with errors that requested that I needed to uninstall/reinstall NIS 2012. On 2 of them it seemed to work fine but now they seem sluggish. They both reinstalled to v19.2.0.10 and they won’t update to v19.5.

The major problem…

1 of my PC’s will not update past v19.1.1.3 and when I attempt to go into “Settings” it displays; error 3040, 40028 which it cannot automatically fix nor I find any fixes when I click on “Support” and check your website. The only information regarding “error 3040, 40028” seems to be in previous versions and “Nathan” the virtual repair program keeps insisting that I uninstall/reinstall. The first time the automated uninstall/reinstall tool (NRnR.exe) did not work and I had to use the older “Norton Removal Tool”.

After that uninstall/reinstall was completed I again received the same error’s above. This time I ran the automated uninstall/reinstall tool (NRnR.exe) with success but still received the same errors again. The Third time the support session advised me to use the “Norton Eraser Tool” which found no issues. After uninstalling/reinstalling again I found myself back to the same errors.

After using the Norton Removal Tool again I shut the computer down and gave up for the night. Can you advise me as to what is going on here??? I never was able to update past v19.1 on this 1 particular computer and the same errors kept reappearing. I am frustrated to say the least.

Re: NIS 2012 gone Haywire

Hi mikmock:

Welcome to the Norton Community!

You will need to be logged in with Administrator privileges for the items below.

First be sure to export any Identity Safe Data and write down your Product Key.

Then use this tool located here. After that, perform a full reboot.

Now, download the NIS 2012 installer from this link and run it.

Update via Live Update until all updates are exhausted.

Please post back here and advise if this solves your issue.

Thanks,

Hello mikmock

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

From what I have heard is that  you can't update past 19.1.1. This may have changed though now.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

Hi mikmock:

Hmm... a toughie! :smileysad:

Do you have (or ever had) any other AV/FW programs on your computer other than NIS 2012?

What Operating System are you using?

Hello mikmock

You should be able to update to version 19.5 if you have an English language NIS 2012. Hope this solves your problem. Thanks.

Hi

If you have a identity safe data back it up -> Goto Control panel uninstall norton AV ->select the second option to completely uninstall ->restart -> Run Norton Removal Tool -> Restart -> Press win key + r -> type ' devmgmt.msc -> view -> Show hidden devices -> Non Plug and Play Drivers -> if you find

NAVENG, NAVEX15, starting from Symantec Data Store to SymEvent (entries starting with Sym)  ->right click on them click uninstall -> For the Restart prompts select no -> Goto Program files if you find Norton Folder delete it -> Goto Run ->type temp ->Delete all the files in there -> Run -> %temp% ->delete all ->Now Restart the PC ->Install NIS12 -> Run Live Update until you get no updates found message ->restart PC -> NIS settings -> Real Time Protection -> turn Enable Boot Time Protection to Normal (If it is already normal let it be) ->Run Live Update | Let us know how it went for you and reply if you'd any difficulties

[ Edited ]

Still not working, found a couple folders left in ProgramData and got rid of them but same senario, error appears when i click on "Settings"

...Answer to other post about other AV Programs, had BitDefender 2011 for a while, cleaned that one up a couple of months ago when I first installed NIS 2012.

NIS has been running fine for a couple of months before all the Uninstall/Re-install messages began...Also 1 of my 19.2 PC's updated to 19.5 this AM on first LU, but the other one is still staying at 19.2 even after several Live Update attempts.

What next???

Thanks for all the posts

Did you first use the BitDefender uninstall tool? If not, I would suggest first using it and reinstall NIS 2012 again.

Just follow the same procedure which I had posted above in Message #2.

Please advise, thanks. :smileyhappy:
