There may be an issue with Flash and Firefox. Check this link.

Try disabling ALL of the add ons. Then test your speed. If your speed goes up again, continue below.

Then enable one half of them, and do a test. If the speed stays up, then disable a few more and test. Continue this until you find what causes the slowdown.

If the speed does not go up, try contacting Norton Support via the online chat. They have tools and information that we volunteers to not. You will find them here.

Another thing to try, is removing Firefox again, then installing version 12 to see if that helps. You can find it here.

It may also be a Microsoft update that does not play well with Firefox.

Thanks for your help. Yes it could be the W7 update or perhaps the Nvidia update. I spent a lot of time and efforts in trying to get FF working with NIS 2012. After 3 days and also several clean installs NIS als well as FF 13.01and next to that following all the steps on the FF helpsite I think it is enough. Ik prefer FF but when it doesn't work together with NIS 2012 and slows down download? This morning I tested Chrome and it is fast and working well. I didn't  experience any problems with IE9 and Chrome in terms of speed and opening pages. Download speed in Chrome is even slighly better than in IE. So why struggle any longer with FF when IE as well as Chrome causes no problems. It is a pitty because I prefer FF but it doesn't work together with NIS. At least not  on my W7 machines.

We don't like to see a non solution, but I understand your frustration.

Did you try reverting to version 12 of FF? I would be interested to see if it was indeed FF changes that caused this.

If you have a little time left to try it it could help others that may see this issue.

Hello Peterweb. Did what you asked me to do. De-installed FF 13.01 with Revo. Did a reboot and installed the older version FF12. After that did a reboot again. Then did the speedtest with three browsers one after another first FF12 result on a flashbased webpage first time 70 Mbps second time 38 Mbps. The same pattern as with the FF 13.01 version. IE and Chrome where both on 94 and  98 Mbps two times . 

Last weeks something has been changed on the system that apparently causes FF to slow down.

Saw that FF 12 automatically integrated the new updated plug ins! The W7 updates? The Nvidia (D3) update? The plugin updates Flash, Java, Adobe, and? Difficult to recall what causes FF 12 as well as 13 versions to slow down download speed?

The answer lays in the difference between IE9, Chrome and FF 13.01 on the W7 machine in relation to NIS? On the XP machine everything runs as a charm.

Thanks for your patience and for humoring me.

I guess if your XP machine is running fine, assuming it has the same apps installed, it seems to be a Win 7 issue.

This is an example of the infinite number of computer hardware and software combinations making it almost impossible to make things work 100% of the time.

Maybe FF 14 will fix things, or Win8???
