Get the same message recently whenever I try and log out of Hotmail (see below). Been happening for a month now. Tried it in latest versions of Firefox, IE, Chrome, Opera. Tried it on our two Win 7 PCs and my Win XP laptop. Always the same. The only similarity is they all have NIS 2012 installed. Tried it at a pal's house on Win 7 & IE, but NOT NIS (he uses another internet security product), and the problem DOES NOT occur. Tried Microsoft support which got me nowhere - they suggested deleting all cookies - made no difference. I've not changed anything on my ADSL modem/router/Firewall for months, can't think what else it could be.
Could this be a NIS problem? Anybody else seeing this problem? Anybody any thoughts?

Have you tried clearing all your "Preserve Favorites website data" in IE and trying again?
By exactly what method do you enter this site? Is "remember me" unchecked in Identity Safe?
Just throwing some ideas at you, I know.

Thanks for the suggestions. Haven't tried the IE suggestion, but the problem happens in FF, Chrome etc as well. And I'm not using Identity Safe - never touched it.
Keep the ideas coming!

Sorry - should have said I enter the site by pulling it from Bookmarks, FF remembers my user ID, and then I type in my password each and every time.

Kindly advise if the IE flush (above) works out for you.

This is going to appear to be a dumb question (but bear in mind I don't use IE as my default browser): Where is "Preserve Favorites website data" in IE9? I looked under "Favourites", under "Tools/Internet options", and in the help system for this, but couldn't see it. Please advise how to unset/set this option.

Here's a resource for you...
Remember to uncheck "Preserve Favorites website data," leave all the others checked and click delete.
Then close and restart IE 9, recheck it and click delete again (all boxes should be checked when you are done.)
Please post back with your findings.

Thanks for providing that - it's a bit easier to use than Microsoft's approach.

I had the same problem (when signing out of Hotmail).
I found that the problem was caused by my disabling third party cookies in Firefox.
I also found that the error message did not appear to be accurate. It says that I am not signed out of Hotmail. However, if that were true, then by clicking my bookmark for Hotmail (right after the message was displayed), I should be taken back to my Hotmail inbox. Instead, when I click my Hotmail bookmark (after receiving the error message stating I was not signed out of Hotmail), I was taken to the usual Hotmail sign-on page (which implies to me that I really was signed out of Hotmail).
My guess is that MS is using third party cookies to track ones browsing.
I do not want to enable third party cookies just to get rid of a bogus message from MS.
So, I just wrote a simple Greasemonkey script to bypass the page with the error message and display a blank screen when I sign out of Hotmail ... I am no longer bothered by the bogus message.
