Hello,
I have read a lot of comments about the "ccsvchst.exe does not reply on shutdown"-theme, but I still don't have a satisfying answer.
I cannot check the current version of my Norton Internet Security 2010, because its icon didn't show up - for now it's the 3. day... Furthermore I cannot start the LiveUpdate, because it doesn't work either. I can see the Norton's running applications in the Task manager, and the plug-ins work in the background when I'm on the net and during making the correspondence with MS Outlook. Sometimes the icon shows up for a day or two, then my PC can shutdown correctly. I have Windows XP SP2, although I don't think that has any business with this problem.
But I think one can't say this software runs properly if problems occur because of it. Why should I edit the regedit when the problem is with the Symantec Service Framwork? I would like to ask for a solution that makes my PC working perfectly again, if I did buy this product.
To react the last of your answer: on my PC the dialogue window is "ccsvchst.exe does not respond - End/Cancel". And I don't have many icons loaded on the tray, because I like to see my PC as clear as possible. The problem is clearly with the Framework, so could you please do something with that? Or could you suggest something else?

I have the identical problem. I didn't see your thread before I started my own earlier today , "Can't access NIS panel". I hope we get a solution soon!

Based upon the little bit of information that has been provided, can you try the Hotfix mentioned in this document?

Thank you very much for your help.
This hotfix SEEMS to solve the above mentioned problem. But I am a little bit sceptic about that, so I may come back approx. a week and tell whether it was a final solution or not. Sorry for that, but I've read a lot of comments that was like this situation (with ccsvchst.exe) and the solution given was just provisory...

No worries Ardea.
This hotfix is now included in the recent 17.6 update. Here is an excerpt from Tony's (the admin) annoucement.
"Also included the changes from the previously released HotFix:
- Norton icon does not appear in the system tray after I install the latest updates for my Norton 2010...

The week's gone and my icon's still there with no problem any more when shutting down windows. NIS10 took up the above mentioned version number today morning and runs correctly.
Thank you very much again. Now you can give to this topic a check... :-)
