NIS trial expires after 6 days

I activated NIS 2008 on my new laptop 6 days ago.  Now I am receiving an expiration message.  What is wrong with this trial version?

Normally the trial is for 15 days. So only have 9 days left

Re: NIS trial expires after 6 days

Stu,

I understand it is a limited trial, however, after 6 days I am receiving a expiration notice.  It was supposed to be a 60 day trial according to my activation notice, and it lasted a 1/10th of that period, 6 days when I received the expiration notice.  I don't have a problem with the program ending as I have another protection solution, my issue is that I was of the understanding that I was receiving 60 days of free NIS 2008 protection that gave me 1/10 th of the protection I thought I was goung to receive, 6 of 60 days.  Really, not enough time to evaluate whether I want to use this or my existing soolution.

Thanks,

But is it telling you it is a limited version? Or is it telling you your trial is over?

Re: NIS trial expires after 6 days

hi stevo1971 - i haven't seen 60 day trial before - where did you come across it?

there was a problem with licensing that was supposed to be addressed by a utility found here - might give it a try.

MelodicWynd,

Thanks for the suggestion, but the utility looks for a subscription number, and since I don't have one yet, no go.

The 60 trial came pre-installed, but not activated on the new Compaq laptop I bought at Best Buy last weekend.

Re: NIS trial expires after 6 days

Are you sure the program is not working? Symantec, like some others, start their early plea for you to "buy" a subscription. I've seen these messages 30 days before expiration date and they seem to come up everyday faithfully until you do. It is a competitive world out there and I suppose they feel it necessary. Somewhat like the old 'shareware' messages you can't get rid of.....

Re: NIS trial expires after 6 days

donahu1,

I don't think this is the case.  I bought the laptop on Saturday, activated the trialware on Sunday, and the following Friday I received notice that my trial had ended, and I was no longer protected.  I contacted Compaq/HP support, and they had no idea what could have occurred, but gave me a link to a 90 trial of NIS 2008 and NAV 2008 that was free, so they are offering an extra month, but I am upset that I had issues in the first place.

Aha

Sounds like for some reason the software was activated before.

Does the 90 day trial work?

Re: NIS trial expires after 6 days

Stu,

Honestly I haven't tried it yet as I was hoping I would fing a solution for the 60 day trial here, and then be able to use the 90 day trial before buying.  5 months of free protection would be sweet as Norton isn't exactly cheap since it has to be done every year.
